Oak Plantation Campground – Charleston, SC

Oak Plantation Campground - Sharleston, South CarolinaOak Plantation is a very nice campground located in John’s Island, near Charleston, South Carolina. The park was beautifully maintained and almost all of the sites were in the shade. The sites vary in size and privacy… from small and closely spaced to large and private. We had one of the smaller sites and our slideout was uncomfortably close to our neighbor’s awning. Other sites had plenty of room.

The sites with the concrete pads and 30amp seem to be narrower than the gravel 50amp sites. Watch out for the speed bumps located throughout the park. They are so big they have names… Mt. Charleston, Mt. John’s, Mt. South Carolina, etc. so go slow. They’re bigger than they look.

Park staff was very nice and did not hesitate to answer questions or help you out.

There was some traffic noise, but not annoying. We probably would stay here again if we were in the area.

  1. This is by far the most unfriendly campground owner we have ever experienced. You kids can’t play outside of the camper nor can your dog enjoy the outside atmosphere if you are not out there with them even thought they are tied up. They rid around in golf carts like Nazis trying to make sure you aren’t going 11 miles an hour when the bathrooms and the nasty sewer selling water from the their well water. I would never stay here again and I would not recommend this site to another person ever.

  2. We stayed here for three nights in a travel trailer with friends. It was a wonderful experience. So clean. They even swept our rug in front of the camper and raked around the site. We would recommend this campsite.

  3. I have camped at Oak Plantation since my grown sons were young boys. I have brought friends to Oak Plantation during the Spoleto Festival.

The reason I keep coming back is the value, the very clean grounds, and most important for my wife – the spotless and well maintained bathrooms.

Even apart from a great location; this is one of the finest campgrounds in the eastern US.

  4. I booked a few days 3 weeks in advance, had to cancel the very next day because of family emergency and they would not refund my deposit.
They had plenty of time to resell my site, however, they would rather loose a customer who does camp regularly.

  5. My husband and I had to move to Charleston for 2 months starting in May 2007 for my husband to have his radiation and chemotherapy. Oak Plantation was a very good place to stay because it was not but about 30 minutes from MUSC… that was on a heavy traffic day.
It was a beautiful, peaceful place to stay. We would definately stay there again when we visit Charleston. Everyone that works at the campground was very nice and helpful. Thanks for everything that was done to make our stay safe and peaceful.

  6. I live in Charleston, and have been to Oak Plantation. I really is a nice campground, especially for the location and all the area has to offer.

  7. We stayed there 4 nights last August and loved it. The campground is a nice quiet place with lots of room. We have a 38′ motorhome and were not crowded a bit. The staff is nice and helpful too. I would go there again for sure.
