Longhorn Ranch is a nice little out of the way “middle of nowhere” park. There is no on-site store at this campground but there is a 24/7 convenience store in Crowell, only ten minutes up the road.
The park has full hookups and fifty amp service, even out in the boonies! Some spaces look to be a little snug. We didn’t have any trouble with our 32 footer but bigger rigs might have to maneuver a bit. Larry and Sharon (managers) were beyond nice.
There is a steakhouse next door that serves a mean filet and the country atmosphere is really neat. It’s only open on Friday and Saturday night. It was wall-to-wall when we went and the waitress said that wasn’t unusual. I’d definitely make a reservation if I was going to drive in from somewhere. By the way, try their bread pudding. Yum!
The night sky here is crystal clear and the lack of light pollution results in a blanket of stars. The stars and Milky Way stand out so much it may take some city-dwellers by surprise (it did us!). There is a private observatory a few miles up the road.
All-in-all a neat little park that tries very hard to do the basics right. Recommended.
