Summersville Lake Retreat – Mt. Nebo, WV

Summerville Lake Retreat | RVBuddy.com

There is a reason West Virginia is called Almost Heaven, because it is. Summersville Lake Retreat is one spot of this heaven.

For anyone who loves to camp, whether it be tent, RV, or cabins, my husband and I highly recommend Summersville Lake Retreat. The campground is very well maintained and the views are spectacular. The owners and the staff are so friendly and very helpful either answering questions about the campground, questions about your site, and giving you information about this beautiful part of West Virginia. They are very knowledgeable of this area of the state. They offer great recommendations of things to do, places to see and the best restaurants. The hosts guiding you to your sight are exceptional. They are friendly and very helpful.

The bath house is spotless. The showers are wonderful. Plenty of hot water and great water pressure.

The play area for kids will take care keeping the young ones busy.

Then there is the lighthouse. The Summersville Lake Lighthouse was erected overlooking Summersville Lake in Mount Nebo, West Virginia on October 17, 2012. Standing 104 feet tall with a top elevation of 2,164 feet above sea level, the 77,000 lb. structure was a cylindrical tower constructed entirely of 1/2 inch thick steel. With a base diameter of 12 feet receding to 8 feet at the top, visitors can climb 122 steps to reach a 360 degree gallery deck offering unparalled views of Summersville Lake and the Gauley River National Recreation Area.

For those of you that have not experienced it, give it a try. I guarantee you will love it. We stayed July 2017.

Sounds of the Sea RV Park – Trinidad, CA

My word to the wise… don’t camp here! I would stay in a Walmart parking lot before I would stay here.

False advertisement.. you can not hear the sea from this campground, period. It’s a long walk down a busy road and across road and through a park to reach the sea. In my opinion the owner is beyond rude and should not be in this business. The campsites are extremely narrow. Our neighbors poop hose was right outside our door. We can’t even open our awnings. We barely can open our slide outs. There is no grass. This guy put a gravel parking lot in his back yard and slams RVs in like sardines. Yes, I was a sardine fish in a place I couldn’t see or hear the sea.

Pass on this place. The worst RV park (if you want to call it that) that we have ever experienced.

Medina / Wildwood Lake KOA – Medina, NY

In my opinion, Medina / Wildwood Lake KOA is awful.

We arrived after 6 hours of driving. Went to our site and there was a very angry yellow jackets nest. We asked for another site and were told no and we can get our money back! We had no where to stay! I explained to the owner ROB that I was allergic and staying at this site was not an option… he did not care!

I asked him to come with me to see the nest – he blurts out he will not go near the site because he is allergic! Wait, you want me to go but you can’t! He said he has been treating it! Which is true, dead yellow jackets all around & the smell of RAID was disgusting!

It was our 25th wedding anniversary so ROB wasn’t going to ruin it totally. We went to a hotel… I would not recommend this KOA, mainly because of how we were treated but also there is a lot of maintenance that needs to be done! Looking kind of worn out!

Countryside RV Park – Griswold, CT

We have been camping for decades and Countryside RV Park rates among the best.

The sites at this park are well planned, very spacious with more than ample space between campers. The owners personify customer service. They are pet friendly and the seasonal campers are pleasant and friendly. This is not a party campground but a well run family friendly and quiet campground.

A definite visit for next year! Five stars in our book.

Lazy J RV Park and Kampground – Rapid City, SD

Lazy J RV Park is a nice campground built on a hill with 100 mile panoramic views of Rapid City and the surrounding area! We stayed here during 4th of July vacation this summer and had a great time.

The campground features two levels, upper & lower. The upper level accommodates pull-thrus with over 60 sites, and the lower level accommodates campers and tents with over 60 sites. All sites have water and electric, and each site on the upper level also has sewer connections and the choice of 30 or 50 amp electric service. Most of the sites are  paved and fairly level.

There are plenty of trees throughout the property for shade. Amenities included a large heated pool & hot tub, laundromat, arcade/playground, full propane service, groceries, souveniers and RV parts. They also have Wi-Fi, which worked great!

The facilites were clean and well maintained. The staff was friendly and courteous. I recommend Lazy J. We plan on returning again this summer.

Yogi Bear’s Jellystone Park Camp-Resort – Quarryville, PA

I have stayed at this Jellystone Park campground for many years. However, after this last visit, we will not return or recommend.

Upon checking out, they debited my card $250, their claim is that we had a pet in our cabin. This claim is completely unfounded, untrue and they had no right to take our money.

I can no longer recommend them to anyone and will never patronize again. Years of loyalty down the drain.

Camp Hatteras RV Resort & Campground – Rodanthe, NC

Our family loves this campground and have made it a regular yearly trip since 1998. Our usual stay is 10 to 14 days. We have stayed over the 4th of July week, when the campground is relatively crowded, and accomodations, bathhouses were kept clean and neat, despite the large number of campers. The campground is gated and security patrolled, even at night. When we needed security (due to some loud late-night partyers) the situation was handled well. Late check-in is possible. Normal check-in flows smoothly, with a large pull-off for waiting campers.

In August, the weekends fill up somewhat, but during the week, we may be one of 2 or 3 rigs on our loop. It’s a bit on the high side in pricing, but well worth it in our family’s opinion.

The sites are spacious with level concrete pads and a picnic table (no campfires on site, but usually you can have one down on the beach). They spray for mosquitos nightly, there is sound and beach access within an easy 2-5 min. walk from any site in the campground, indoor, outdoor and kiddie pools, hot tub, game room, and organized activities. Play equipment, tennis courts, basketball courts, a mini-golf course and the pools are kept clean and in good repair, as is a huge covered picnic pavilion. There are 2 catch/release ponds on the property, but for pier fishing, Rodanthe Pier is a walk up the beach or road. Even when hubby was contacted by work, he could connect using the wi-fi that was available. The staff is really friendly and willing to answer questions whether it’s about babysitting options, the best place to go crabbing, or possible membership opportunities (an old retired program, but a few people look to sell each year – and they honor the transfer).

They won’t let you request certain sites, but you can request area/loop preferences. When our extended family (4 individual families with small kids) made arrangements, they worked with us to put us on spots that opened out onto and faced eachother.

We think it’s a great value for a top notch campground. There are many more ammenities here than a comparably priced beach hotel/motel. Plus, if you have a membership (like Good Sam or AAA), they honor their discounts!

Dakota Campground – Walsenburg, CO

Run, Do not walk… away from this campground. Just because one puts out a sign saying “campground” does not mean it is a campground. This place resembles a salvage yard for derelict RV’s behind an RV repair facility (Birco) that is in itself a dump.

We were towed there after vehicle troubles by Good Sam’s Travel Assistance. I will readily admit that while there (paid out of pocket the following morning to have RV towed elsewhere) we did not check out the laundry and bathrooms for fear of catching something.

Stay clear of this place!!!

Wine Country RV Park – Rohnert Park, CA

Campground and RV Park Reviews | RVBuddy.com

Wine Country RV Park is in town, although there is no traffic noise at night to bother you.  The trailers and RV’s are very close together, so there is no where to sit outside… it’s a gravel parking lot. However, the management is nice, they keep the place orderly and quiet, and check-in/out was easy.

Parking is  at a premium, so let them know if you have a big rig/toad as it could be a problem. If you just need a sleeping place while in the Santa Rosa area, this should be fine.

Get good directions when you make your reservations as it could be hard to find.

Durango Riverside Resort – Durango, CO

Campground and RV Park Reviews | RVBuddy.com

Durango Riverside Resort is located 12 miles north of Durango, Colorado on US Route 550. The campground property is right on the Animas riverfront, but you are quite a distance from town.

The campground has RV and tent campsites, plus 19 rental cabins. WI-FI wireless internet access is available for a fee and cable TV hookups at all campsites (cost is included in the nightly rate), a convenience store, snack bar, souvenir store, and an ice cream parlor.

The location makes this campground a good base camp for exploring the area. Nearby is an alpine slide, ancient Puebloan ruins at Mesa Verde National Park, and the historic Durango and Silverton Narrow Gauge Train.

Unfortuantely, in our opinion the staff was not very nice. They were so not nice, in fact we will not go back. Camping should be about good times, not focused on not nice campground staff.
