Brooks Mill RV Park – Bertram, TX

Campground and RV Park Reviews | RVBuddy.com

Brooks Mill RV Park is located in Bertram, Texas and is situated between Brooks Mill Road on the north and State Highway 29 on the south. The park is approximately 300 ft wide on the east end and 475 ft wide on the west end. There is a single oval road through the park with parking spaces on either side of the oval. There is an active RR track that borders the south side of the park and runs between the park and State Highway 29.

My wife and I arrived October 15 2017. We had prepaid $125 deposit for electrical use and to hold the site. We charged an additional $240 at our arrival, anticipating a pleasant stay through the end of October. After turning in for the night, we were awakened sometime after midnight by two different freight trains. The noise was extremely loud and my wife experienced a severe panic attack. We had no choice but to leave the following day.

I explained the situation to the park manager (Roxanne) and asked if they would consider refunding our payment less one night’s stay. Roxanne said she would have to check with the owners and get back to me. She did not get back with me. About a week later I called the park and got another person who said they would contact the owner and call me back right away. Never heard back from this person. I called the park on October 29 and got the owner (Kristi). She explained to me that their policy was not to make refunds for any reason; that they were a business and made their money off the reservations. When I raised the train issue, Kristi’s response was that I should have researched this before I booked the reservation.

To be fair, the contract that my wife signed upon our arrival did clearly state that there would be no refunds. This statement also appears on their website. We did receive a credit back of $110 for our deposit against electric usage, but no consideration on the rent payment. This is the first no-refund policy we’ve run into. There is, of course, no mention on their website of trains in close proximity to the park.

If you Google Brooks Mill RV Park and check out the satellite view of the mapped area, you will clearly see the train tracks and the highway. Taking Kristi’s advice to research this, I pass my findings on to you. If you love trains blasting their horns during sleeping hours, then you’ll love this place. You may also be interested to know that there was a 22-car train derailment right in front of the park at about 1:15am on April 19, 2017. You can Google “train derailment in Bertram TX” and several articles with photos will come up.

I found Brooks Mill to be overpriced with narrow parking spaces flanked by lower, somewhat depressed areas. No real place to put out a rug except on the drive in front of or behind your RV. Compared to other RV parks we’ve visited, I would consider this site to be only mediocre. There is also continuous heavy traffic noise from Highway 29.

I would strongly recommend not booking anything more that a one night’s stay before you commit to extended stay at Brooks Mill. $240 for one night was a big bite for us; we will not be back.

Let the buyer beware.

Trailer Inns RV Park – Yakima, WA

I’ve never been so moved to warn people about Trailer Inns RV Park.

My husband and I have stayed in dozens of RV parks. This is by far the worst! It’s located in a horrible part of town, crack heads and druggies walk through. Lean on the fences and shout at you. You have to take dogs outside of the barb wire fence where all of these people pass through. Both street lights are out too. We’ve been here for a month and a half and never have I felt safe.

I’ve complained to management only to be told I’d be charged if I let my dog pee inside the park. The actual park itself is ok, but during all hours of the day and night you’ll hear the mind numbing sound of the brewery next door. I had to start buying sleeping pills. Plus when you walk outside it smells like stale beer.

Whispering Hills RV Park has very nice, clean, level sites… although you must use a water pressure regulator.

The campground has a Friday night movie with great popcorn. It’s easy to get around. Parking was crowded, as you had to park nose to tail on the road. Sites a little close together.

They have 230 sites with w/e/s, WIFI, picnic tables, fire rings at all back-in sites, a playground, basketball court, pool, fishing pond, Pavilion, bath houses with individual bath rooms for privacy, a laundry. They are Big Rig Accessible with 30 pull-thrus (no fires rings at any pull-thru sites). All sites are 20, 30 and 50 amp electric service.

Whispering Hills is located close to the ARK Encounter attraction. Rates are in the $35 range.

Mill Creek Marina and Campground is located about 6 miles east of I-95, exit 98… where Mill Creek spills into Pickwick Lake.

The marina has 90 wet storage slips, a public boat launch, and a bait shop, laundry, and a small convenience store. Their “Food & Spirits Restaurant” has sandwiches, burgers, catfish dinners or steak. Liquor, wine and beer are also available.

The campground has 54 campsites. Interior roads are dirt and most sites are surrounded my large shade trees. The atmosphere is laidback. It’s a great place just to relax, fish and sit by the campfire at night.

Mill Creek Campground makes a great overnight stop for I-95 travelers looking for a quiet, peaceful nights rest.

This Yogi Bear’s Jellystone park is a great campground.

The park has nice, clean pull thru sites with plenty of room between sites. The property has paved streets and the sites have concrete pads, fire pits, picnic tables. If you have kids this is the place to be.

The owners seem to take a lot of pride in this campground.

Garden of the Gods RV Park – Colorado Springs, CO

Okay, so I cannot say enough about Garden of the Gods RV Park! I LOVE it, and so does my family!

Pros:
1.) Beautiful setting throughout the grounds with some trees, birds, and squirrels(even adorable, black ones), and deer. They even have a fenced in area where they keep bees!
2.) Spaces are close together & gravel, but we do not mind.
3.)Three conveniently spaced bathhouses to chose from & two of them include a laundry area as well.
4.) All bathrooms are SUPER CLEAN & UPDATED.
5.) We always feel safe & secure, because the only entrance and exits to the park are right by the main office with video surveillance.
6.) The location is close to restaurants and a super short drive to Old Town & even Manitou Springs; my husband & I have actually walked to Old Town from the RV Park.
7.) We are a somewhat younger couple (late 30s to early 40s), and we have a 3-year old son. He absolutely loves the atmosphere at the park, and I love it because he is learning about things like bees.
8.) They have a playground, gift shop with lots of the essentials & more.
9.) Friendly staff with an escort to help guide you to your site.
10.) It is a very chill place, where people are nice, but they keep to themselves. They do not appear to have permanent residents.
11.) No year model restrictions on the RV.

They have a privately-operated restaurant on the grounds. We only ate breakfast there, however they may offer lunch & dinner as well. Prices were not bad for the convenience. For example, the biscuits & gravy were great, and you got 2 biscuits for only $3. Pancakes were only $5 for a short stack or $8 for a full stack and they both included the option for sausage or bacon. The people were really nice that prepared the food.

I do not have a pet, but I did notice a fenced in pet area. Also, numerous people were out walking their dogs. There is a pool although we have only stayed in the off-season, so it is not warm enough to use. They also have an arcade, although we have never used it.

Cons:
1.) We were unable to get a pull-through. However, that may be more of our fault, because we did arrive on short notice with a same day reservation.

SUGGESTIONS: I think they should update the playground area and maybe add a year-a-round hot tub.

Tecopa Hot Springs Resort – Tecopa, CA

I absolutely love Tecopa Hot Springs Resort.

The mineral waters in the tubs (and all around in the natural pools) are absolutely invigorating. I don’t know what it is about the water there but it sucks away muscle tension instantaneously and as a high stress person living in a 24/7 city like Las Vegas, that is absolutely necessary.

I try to come out monthly during the on season. The locals are an incredible group of artists and inventors and the town really has a unique personality. And the stars, well… go see for yourself.

Jefferson County Fairgrounds – Golden, CO

Okay, so this is NOT a resort, but more of place that you stay for a couple of days or less. For that, I HIGHLY recommend it. Also, this in one of the FEW decent places in the Denver area that allow RV older than 15 years!! We paid $40 a night for full hook-up; we only use electric though.
Pros:
1.) Staff was excellent and super friendly.
2.) They only have one bathhouse, but the grounds are small so really no more are needed.
3.) The individual showers inside the bathroom areas have a code-entry for extra security.
4.) The bathhouse was always clean.
5.) They have a BRAND NEW playground that is rather large.
6.) They have a large, covered pavilion with picnic tables.

Cons:
1.) They did not have a pull-through available, however it probably could have happened if I would have made prior arrangements; I just called right before heading over there.
2.) I had to leave my car dolly in a gravel parking lot on the grounds — not in sight from my rv. No issues occurred, but I did not feel safe about it.
3.) Small check-in shack/shed that makes guests have to stand in the elements; although the attendant did invite us in to do the paperwork since it was raining.

Shoreline RV Campground – Crescent City, CA

Here’s my review of Shoreline RV Campground in Crescent City, California.

Pros: Beautiful Views from your RV site (Lighthouse, etc.), Beach-front access, Many pull-through sites, Pretty cheap @ $34.00 a night for 2 people (electric & water) — Each additional person is $3.00, Grounds were clean, Bathrooms were clean, Location was close to restaurants and activities, Park seemed secure/safe, Was able to get a spot with no prior notice.

Bathrooms were dated, but I do not think that is really a negative thing. Also, there were no trees at the sites, but it kind of reminded me of camping on the beach, because the ocean was so close. At night, you can hear the faint ARF-ARF of the sea lions.

Cons: Not the friendliest, on-site staff, but not terrible. He just did not have a very warm personality upon check-in. They live above the bathhouse, and he was adamant about not slamming the door when coming and going from the bathhouse facilities because it wakes them up. Unfortunately, the door will slam automatically if you do not remember to catch it. It was a pain for me to know they were upset, because I could not remember to catch the door every time; not the feeling you want a guest to feel. Only one bathhouse/bathroom area which can be a little inconvenient, and it was close to the entrance instead of near the center of the park.

Amenities: Bathrooms, Showers, & Laundry — nothing fancy, just the basics. Still a WIN-WIN for the price.

My Pros & Cons will be different from yours, but I tried to just roll with it from my experience. My cons about the bathroom may not even apply to you, if you use your RV facilities, which we do not; we solely rely on the bathhouse for everything.

This RV park has way more PROS than CONS. I would totally stay here again, and I would recommend it for an overnight stay to others.

Duck Creek RV Park – Paducah, KY

If you are passing through Paducah Kentucky and wish to be close to historical downtown, stay at Duck Creek RV Park.

The campground is under new ownership. The young couple who own it, Todd and Dana couldn’t be nicer. The staff is also very nice and helpful. We spent 4 months with them and upon our departure we felt like family. It’s located off Exit 11 of Interstate 24.
