West Canada Creek Campsites – Poland, NY

Pack the kids, this place is great! Located in Poland, NY near the Southern Adirondacks. Our last-minute reservation was accepted quickly, and check-in was fast and friendly. Then came the real reward, the campground is immaculate. Buildings and grounds are maintained to a very high standard with lots of entertaining extras.

The West Canada Creek Campsites sits on the banks of West Canada Creek. The electric/water sites and tent sites are mostly on the water. You can fish right from your campsite! The three-way hook-up sites are large and nicely separated by trees. The hook-ups are all modern, complete with cable TV. The largest of rigs with multiple slides will fit here without question. It’s only a short drive to attractions such as the Herkimer Diamond Mines, Utica Zoo, and Adirondack Park among others. The campground has lots of things for kids and families, and still keeps a sense of privacy for those seeking solitude.

The seasonal sites are well kept to a high standard so there is no “trailer trash” appearance. The owners are new and highly motivated to keep a good, friendly atmosphere. Don’t bother to bring firewood, their prices are very low and the quantity is generous…think bucket loader! The tore has lots of basic grocery items and a variety of affordable toys, gadgets, and camp gear.

Canoe rentals are on-site with a shuttle available to take you upstream so you simply paddle “home”. And of course, you can visit the Little Red Caboose for ice cream, hotdogs and snacks.

Assateague Island National Park – Assategue Island, MD

For beach and wildlife lovers, this place is paradise. RV sites have paved pads, and a separate area is reserved for tents only. Another area prohibits the use of generators making it ideal for pop-ups and tents. There is no shade in either the Ocean Front or Bay Front camping areas, so being prepared will make your stay more enjoyable. Facilities are limited to Chemical Toilets and Cold Showers. I used my solar water bag and had a nice warm shower. Canoes are rented during the summer months and there are many possibilities for exploring along various interpretive trails throughout the park.

The most redeeming feature of this park is the wildlife. Two species of deer wander throughout the park. We found a family of three napping in our campsite when we returned from a day walk. They stayed with us for a couple hours. Birds are numerous with a variety of species. The wild Ponies are the highlight. It is illegal to approach or feed any of the wildlife, but a little distance is a good thing when seeing wild horses!

Because of the wildlife, ticks can be a problem here. Again, being prepared can make the difference. Good bug juice is required for people and pets.

Ocean City and the famous boardwalk is only a few minutes’ drive north from the park.

We stayed at Hayti/Portageville KOA last year, and we stayed here again this year. It was even better! The campground is looking great. They’ve made so many improvements. They make pizza which is delicious and they even delivered it to our campsite.

The managers from New Zealand, were so helpful with our road directions. She even took the time to print them out for me. He helped with a problem we had with our sewer hose too. Nothing was too much trouble for them. The pool was clean and the bathrooms impeccable. I love this campground!

Big Oaks Family Campground – Rehoboth Beach, DE

We just got back from our second stay at Big Oaks Family Campground. We visited the park last season in a small pop-up and returned this year in a 20′ trailer (and were able to enjoy the benefits of full hookups!).

Last season, we did stay a 4 day weekend in the pop-up at Cape Henlopen State Park (only water provided) and then took a ride over to Big Oaks Family Campground. We selected a few spots and booked a 4 day weekend in August.

All I can say is, thank goodness for electric! Even in the pop-up, our stay was a great memory! We were near the bath house with one shower.

For the first day, we thought that there was only one bathroom and one shower. We discovered that the large bathhouse near the cabins really had more facilities (located around the side!) The bathrooms were clean and maintained. We decided to return to Big Oaks again.

This year, as newbies with a bigger rig, were still haven’t mastered backing in and leveling off. The owner took pity on us and helped get our rig in the spot. What a nice thing! We experienced a cable problem, but after reporting it to the office, the local cable company was called out and fixed the problem within an hour! The campground is well run, family friendly, with a pleasant and nice staff. We can’t wait to return again in a few weeks for another long weekend!

Lake Wenatchee State Park – Lake Wenatchee, WA

The North Entrance to Lake Wenatchee State Park contains the RV spots, both utility and non-utility. The South entrance appears to be only for tents. The “utility” spots are located on the outer edge of Loop 1 and Loop 2 of the North Entrance. The utility sites contain a “half circle” RV parking spot, on dirt, where you “bend” your RV around the half circle in order to connect to the post (more difficult with the larger rigs!). The “half circle” was very uneven, but it’s a forest, what can you expect? I use Lynx Blocks and I gave up trying to get level. But, on the good side, along with your RV parking spot, you get a very spacious picnic area and a tent pad. TV reception via antenna was sufficient, not perfect, but sufficient. You can get the networks and PBS. A popular lake and boat ramp are within walking distance, and there is a store for some supplies. If you choose to dry camp, the non-utility sites in the North Entrance have good back-in slots with the same spacious picnic area and tent pad.

There are sufficient trees for adequate shade, but spaced far enough apart that privacy is compromised. You can see all your neighbors and they can see you! The reason for the trees being spaced apart is the result of a posted forest management plan which actually made sense to me, even though I’m not a botanist or vegetation expert. I enjoyed my stay despite sleeping very unlevel.

American RV Park – Albuquerque NM

We stayed at American RV Park from 06/16 through 06/19 (4 nights) on our 2 week summer vacation. And although the facility was very nice as far as landscaping, amenities and the rest rooms, we did have several issues that I thought needed mentioning. Had I known about these peculiarities prior to our booking, I would have chosen elsewhere…Let me preface by saying I am not trying to nitpick, but we were on vacation and were unprepared for these events and issues. We stayed at several parks during our trip and only had issues at this park.

Pool hours: 10am to 8pm. Considering it is summer time and it doesn?t get dark until after 9pm, we found an 8pm pool closing to be quiet early. Especially considering this park boast 24 hour on-site management. Every other park we stayed at for our entire vacation had much later pool hours.

Pool closes at 8pm: but the management runs you out at 10 minutes till. We would spend the day doing stuff in Albuquerque and kill our selves trying to get back in time for the kids to splash in the pool for a few minutes, only to have the staff order everyone out 5 to 10 minutes before 8. This might sound petty but when you didn?t get to the pool until 7:30 or 7:45 thinking the younguns had 15 to 30 minutes to swim, closing the pool earlier than the posted time only frustrated the kids more than getting to the pool so late.

The pool closing early happened every night that we were there. On the 19th of June the park manager Garland Wright was the one that ordered the pool closed. While I was at the camper tinkering and preparing for an early departure in the morning, the wife was at the pool with our kids. Mr. Wright?s comment to my wife when he laid down the order to exit the premises was, and I quote ?Are those your kids?..Get them out?. This was happening at 10 minutes before 8. When the wife returned to the camper I joked about the eviction happening earlier that night than previous nights, and she proceeded to tell me about her conversation with Mr. Wright. I immediately headed to the pool to voice my displeasure and he proceeded to argue with me and in so many words (the ?F? word included) told me that was just too bad. He also slammed the door to the lobby in my face as he locked it. The time now was 7:55pm. The office was supposed to be open until 8:00pm.

Another problem we had was with their un-posted specific rules about beverages by the pool. It seems they only allow collapsible water bottles by the pool. For our entire stay they were constantly hassling people about their beverage containers. My wife had a blizzard beach beverage jug (from WDW), that was plastic, had a sealed lid, and was full of ice water. She was charged by Dave, one of the staff and ordered to remove it from the pool area. I had a big plastic cup and was also rudely approached. One lady had a diet coke; another had a collapsible squeeze bottle with the big straw? all guilty and ordered to be removed. We stayed at 7 parks during our 2 week vacation and all of the other pools did have rules about food and glass containers, but no one was ever assaulted because they had a can of diet coke or a squeeze bottle full of lemonade or whatever.

Another item to mention, when we checked in we were told that our kids were not allowed at the playground unless they were accompanied by an adult even though our site was 3 or 4 down from the playground, our kids were 10 years old and we could see the playground from our site. I found this to be a little upsetting but did notice during our stay that the playground constantly had kids playing with no parents in sight.

We did find several staff members to be very friendly and helpful, but we also found several that made you feel like you were bothering them. On more than one occasion I heard staff arguing with customers. I heard Garland?s name mentioned more than once.

I was actually appalled at how Mr. Wright handled customers (namely me and my wife) and questioned Legacy?s decision to have a person like this in the management role. He did tell me that he must be doing something right because in his one year as manager their occupancy percentage was way up. This certainly sends the message to me that putting people in the sites is far more important to the Legacy corporation than how you treat them.

I seems to me that this is a perfect facility as long as you quietly come and go and only minimally use the amenities. To me an RV campground is a 24/7/365 job. This is not Sears. Closing the office at 8pm, or rather 7:54pm does not mean that the customer goes away. Further I do not think that this staff cares a lot for families. It is my impression that they favor the retired customers over the family customer, even though this customer paid for 4 nights and spent quiet a bit of additional money in the office area on ice, souvenirs, cookies, news paper, soda?s and ice cream.

I believe we should have only stayed at this facility for one night. That way the little quirks of this parks management would not have been as noticeable nor had the opportunity to fester. On my next trip to Albuquerque, my RV will definitely be parked at a different camp facility.

Woodlawn Campground – Delmar, MD

For North and South travelers through Maryland and Delaware along Route 13, here’s a nice place to rest and relax. Woodlawn is a small family owned park with lots of advantages. The Park is only one block off Route 13 with easy drive-through and back-in sites. Bath facilities are clean and well maintained, the park itself is wooded and shady. Ice and Firewood are sold there, and a convenience store is a short walk away. With the highway so close, traffic noise can be a problem for tents and pop-ups. For day trips, a short drive either way on nearby Route 50 can bring you East to the Ocean or West to Chesapeake Bay. Campsite prices are extremely low by today’s standards with a modest mark-up for Heaters and Air Conditioners.

Disney’s Fort Wilderness – Lake Buena Vista, FL

What can you say… this is Disney! It’s the campground from which all others are compared. It’s easy to see why Fort Wilderness is consistently voted the best campground in America. Everything is first class here. Right down to the trash cans (each site has one and they’re recessed underground so only the tops can be seen!). The park is clean, the staff is friendly and the amenities are second to none.

We’ve spent several camping vacations at Fort Wilderness. The first time we tented, the next with a 29′ travel trailer and the last two times in our motor home. The Disney novelty never wears off. Each time was better than the last.

There’s plenty of room to park your rig while you check in and the staff were friendly and accommodating. All interior roads are paved and in great condition. Our sites have always been comfortably large and private. You really don’t feel the least bit crowded here. Even though Fort Wilderness is huge (well over 1000!) it is unusually quiet and peaceful. We usually get a full hook-up site (S/W/E/CATV) and there are plenty of ’em. The comfort stations throughout the park are “squeeky clean” and never seem crowded.

So much to see and do… where do I start? OK, how about food? Fort Wilderness has a bunch of food options: The Chuck Wagon is a coll little snack bar. Head up to Crockett’s Tavern and get yourself a slice of pizza, hamburgers, fries and drinks. Micky’s Backyard Bar-B-Q is an all-you-can-eat picnic complete with country western entertainment Disney style. Trail’s End Restaurant in Pioneer Hall is a buffet style casual restaurant with a great selection of meals. Last but not least is the Hoop-De-Doo Musical Review a feast complete with an extravagant stage show.

Fort Wilderness has two huge pools (Meadows and Wilderness), A white sand beach on Bay Lake, a health club, two video arcades for the kids (and husbands), playgrounds, a petting farm, tennis and more! If you head up to Bay Lake you can rent a pontoon boat or “Water Mouse” and cruise around for an hour or two. There’s “catch and release” fishing available too.

If you didn’t take your bikes with you (we always travel with ours) you can rent them here. With plenty of trails and roads throughout the park you can spend hours exploring the campground. Horseback riding for the grown-up and pony rides for the younger kids are available here.

When the sun goes down there’s still plenty to do. Every night we were there we would pack up the kids and head for the outdoor movie theatre. A campfire, some popcorn and a Disney flick… we’ll remember these camping trips for years to come.

You really don’t have to visit one of Disney’s theme parks to appreciate the conveniences of Fort Wilderness. But if you do it’s the ultimate. Transportation to all of Disney’s attractions are available from Fort Wilderness, either by bus or boat.

If there is a downside to all of this it’s that camping at Fort Wilderness is fairly expensive. We’ve paid well over $50 a night here… Oh well, it’s Disney and there’s nothing discount about this place. Nevertheless, we’ll keep coming back because the memories far out number the dollars we’ve spent here.

Coles Creek State Park – Waddington, NY

This place is a destination. The park is situated along the St Lawrence River. The Park Staff does a great job with buildings and grounds maintenance. There is nice playground and swimming area, plus a camp store and Ice Cream Shop.Almost every site has a view of the water with several prime water front sites. Some sites are surprisingly large, they’re not stacked in tight. Bring your boat and fishing gear!

Chattanooga South KOA – Chattanooga, TN

Campground and RV Park Reviews | RVBuddy

Although this campground looks nice when entering, the management at this facility ruin the pleasure of staying in Chattanooga. The managers/owners do not show respect for their campers, when presented with any sort of a conflict, they do not show any interest in finding a resolution, but only put their own initiatives and desires above anything and everything else.

I observed the owner to be confronted by two other campers that had complaints, and were handled rudely and unjustly, with management ultimately walking off from the individuals, with no consideration of making them happy or content. This also happened with our group. Prices are high for the sites, outside wood is not allowed, and the camper must pay $5/small bag of wood if they want a campfire, outside visitors must pay $4 per vehicle PLUS $3 per person to enter if not camping, swimming pool is only open 10am to 4pm, and management is obsessed with controlling the entire environment of the campground, including the bathrooms. Truly ridiculous and we’ll never stay at this facility again.
