Pahrump Station RV Park – Pahrump, NV

While Pahrump Station RV Park is well landscaped and each site has a bit of green grass and trees, (in the desert), we were very disappointed in this park and it has soured us on corporate campgrounds.

We called for reservations (Best Western) over a month ago and that was no problem. The advertisements said phone internet, free cable TV at every site, and large pull-ins. Well, our TV didn’t work and it turned out that none of them worked in the section they put us in. Also while the price wasn’t bad, the extras added up the cost. tax was extra, (I have never had added tax before), Phone internet was extra – okay it was only a dollar a day, but I find it to be annoying to use phone internet after WiFi. Electricity was also extra, and while only $2. a day, I just kept wondering when it would stop. Now I don’t think folks shouldn’t consider this place, but when you call for reservations, ask lots of questions and get names… There are lots of RV parks in town and surely some will have better customer service.

By the way, there were lots of open sites where cable did work, and we were not told about them.

Sunrise Valley RV Park – Mina, NV

Mina, Nevada is a poor little town, bordering on being a ghost town, but the Sunrise Valley RV Park is an oasis of green. and a very pleasant surprise.

There are tons of great spaces for the longest of rigs. The bathroom is clean and neat and private, and WiFi for an extra $2.00. Now they say that there is TV but we were unable to find it and our antenna only picked up one blurry channel. But we have satellite so it really wasn’t a problem for us. Rock hounders would love this park as they can talk business with the owner. ATVers have a whole huge desert behind the park to explore.

Reservations are probably not necessary except for the largest of rigs if you plan to get in early. We were here on a Monday night and the place was about 3/4s full by dark.

Pyramid Lake Marina RV Park – Sutcliffe, NV

We had always wanted to see Pyramid Lake but all we could find on the internet was that there was dry camping all along the lake, all you needed was a permit from the Ranger Station. Much to our amazement, when we went to ask about a permit, they told us that Pyramid Lake Marine had full service camping.

The campground is really nice… electricity, water, sewer and a very new, very clean bathroom with hot showers. The weekend we were there (April 07) they were having a fishing derby but there were still some spaces available, lucky for us.BTW, if you plan to dry camp, make sure you walk the road before hand as there are soft spots in the sand and it looks as if folks have gotten stuck in the past.

Things to do in the area are mostly boating, fishing for cutthroat trout, bird watching and swimming in the warmer months.

Sully’s RV Park – Alturas, CA

Sully’s is a very functional RV park and since it is about the only one in town, it was nice to find, especially, in the April snow storm we encountered. Folks with the same idea we had, followed us in, and in no time, the place was full. Sully’s is an older RV park, with about half the occupants full timers, but the folks were nice, the rates decent and bathrooms were clean. No internet, unfortunately, but the cable TV was good.

La Pine State Park – La Pine, OR

Towering pine trees and typical size RV sites, La Pine State Park has one thing going for it… Nice hot, free showers.

We like to go to State Park’s in April when they are quiet. La Pine only had a few folks in it and only one loop was open. There are some great hikes and birding was awesome.
If you are in the area, and have nothing but time, check out the Big Tree. The sign advises that it is the largest pine in Oregon. It is a huge tree, but just a tree.
If you time is limited, make sure you plan on at least 2 hours at the High Desert Museum just south of Bend. It is one of the awesome museums that it worth the price and 2 hours will really limit what you see.

American Heritage RV Park – Williamsburg, VA

American Heritage RV Park is located near Williamsburg. This campground is easy get to and a good base camp for exploring Colonial Williamsburg, Jamestown, and Yorktown.

Full hookup sites are pull through, and some have concrete pads. The property seems to be well maintained with clean rooms and showers. Looks like brand new electrical service(20, 30, 50amp) and cable TV connections. The WiFi is inexpensive and easy to use.We were there in mid April, and the pool was not filled yet but looks to be pleasant and a place where kids would enjoy themselves. The office also has a modest game room for kids.

There are some shaded sites but most are in the open. Everyone we met was pleasant and helpful.

Bar Harbor RV Park and Marina – Abingdon, MD

Bar Harbor RV Park and Marina is located on the Bush River in Abingdon, Maryland. This campground is only 4 miles from I-95. We were there in mid-April, and it seemed like there were many seasonal campers there already. Everyhone we met on our 1 night stay was welcoming and pleasant. The office staff friendly and helpful. The road in was a bit narrow but should be no problem.

Many of the sites sit right on the river. Ours was grassy with a concrete pad, full hookups, and about 8 feet from the water. Restrooms could have been a bit cleaner but they were not all that bad.

An enjoyable stop on the way south to Virginia. We’d go back again.

Wenatchee River County Park – Monitor, WA

Wenatchee River County Park is a great campground… so great in fact, that you really need to get reservations before you come. The park is located a few miles west of Wenatchee and about 40 miles from Lake Chelan, right on the Wenatchee River. The campsites are all in a circle so they are well spaced and easy to back into. There are a few pull-thrus also. Showers are clean and neat and there is a small playground for the younger kids and a golf cage for the older ones.
There is no fishing in the Wenatchee River, but folks love to float down it during warm summer days.

Tower Rock at Gifford Pinchot NF – Randal, WA

Gifford Pinchot National Forest has some great campgrounds and while it would be a stretch to call Tower Rock “great”, its not bad. They offer dry camping only and it doesn’t open until mid May, but it does have fire-rings and picnic tables.

Information states that Tower Rock can accommodate RV’s up to 22′ long, but I think longer ones will fit in most of the sites. (If I had my ruthers, I would chose Site 2 as my first choice and Site 1 as second as they are both along the Crispin River.) They offer pit toilets, no dumps and drinking water is available.
The area has lots of hiking trails, including one for the blind that is about a mile long. Trout fishing here is very popular.
Rates are $16-18 per night. While they take reservations, I would come during the week and try to avoid the reservation fee.

Other camps in the area are Iron Creek, and North Fork which are also dry. There is a private RV park in the area also… I saw the signs, but didn’t check it out.

While your in the area, if you have a vehicle other than the RV, check out Layser Cave. The road up to it is narrow and I wouldn’t want to meet another car on it, and the parking is a wide spot in the road. The cave is pretty interesting and the views are spectacular.

Ellensburg KOA – Ellensburg, WA

Ellensburg KOA might be the only game in town, but it’s a great campground for the overnighter or the fort-nighter. It’s located right on the Yakima River, and it has easy access to I-90.

Sites are full service but some are too far from WIFI to reach so ask to make sure. They have bike rentals, a video arcade, a little store, snack bar and lots of extras. Also they have a nice area for tents. While we didn’t have reservations, would highly recommend getting them for great site selection.
