We were looking for a quiet place with full hook-up and a nice view to spend a fall weekend. We found it all, and then some, at Merry Knoll Campground.

Located on Route 12E just three miles West of the Village of Clayton, Merry Knoll is just right for enjoying the Thousand Islands region of New York. Island Boat Tours, Historic Museums, Horseback Riding, and Fishing Excursions are all withing a few minutes’ drive from the campground.

Because of bad weather, we chose to stay put and watch the big ships run the Saint Lawrence Seaway. The view isn’t spectacular, but among all the campgrounds nearby, this was the best. Some sites are uncomfortably close to the highway, but most are along a grassy hillside overlooking the river. All the sites were level and easy to get into with a choice of pull-through or back-in.

The pool was closed for the season but appeared well-maintained and clean. Showers, Toilets, and Laundry are clean, just a little rustic. There is a playground area near the pool.

The owners are friendly and will help with everything from parking your rig to finding a great place to have dinner. The “Good Will Ambassador” is a friendly old dog named Baxter. He loves showing people around the property, mostly in a Golf Cart!

It’s useful to have extra hose and extension cords to reach some of the hook-ups.
