During a road trip through New England in June 2009, we decided to spend some time in the White Mountains. We visited three of the National Forest Service Campgrounds. Dolly Copp is the biggest, but in our opinion, too crowded. Jigger Johnson offers hot showers and electric service, therefore is very popular. At Passaconaway there are no hookups. Water spigots are available to fill your tanks and vault toilets. The rustic nature of the place appealed to us.
If you’ve got a big rig, I would recommend parking at the gate and taking a short walking tour to determine if you are comfortable driving in. Some turns are tight and there are some low branches.
The camp host does a nice job keeping the place clean and firewood is available at his site. Several hiking trails begin at the parking area across the highway. We enjoyed three nights of quiet seclusion. If dry camping appeals to you, this is a nice place to spend some time.
