Greenwood Park is located 8 miles west of I-81 from exit 8, Whitnet Point. The park is well maintained with a nice lake and sand beach for swimming and modern playgrounds. Six miles of walking trails wander throughout the park.
The campground features 50 wooded sites with 30-amp electric, paved pads, and water spigots to fill your tank. We didn’t see any units larger than 30′ during our weekend stay, mostly tents and small to medium sized trailers. During summer weekends the campground is a bit hectic with weekend warriors, but the park security does a good job keeping the peace. During the week, this is a great stop over for I-81 travelers looking for a couple quiet nights off the road. There are no attractions in the area so there’s nothing to do but enjoy the natural setting of the park.
Credit Cards are not accepted, so have cash or check ready. Sites are $18/per night with electric, not bad. Reservations are accepted, but are not site specific. If you arrive without a reservation, and the sites are full, they will let you stay in the parking lot near the beach for free, but only one night.
The website is www.gobroomecounty.com with maps and contact information.
