Champlain Adult Campground is in an excellent location and has great facilities, but we do not expect to return because camping should be enjoyable and relaxing.

We are a NYC-based professional couple in our 30’s, we drive a VW Westfalia, and we have camped all over the U.S. -Martha’s Vineyard, Glacier National Park, Bahia Honda, Big Sur. We’re experienced.

In August of 2009 we booked a week of outdoor fun at Lake Champlain Adult Campground. It seemed like the nicest property in the area. Hands down the facilities and location are outstanding: manicured grounds, spacious sites, gorgeous views, clean restrooms, nice fellow campers. But by the end of our (shortened) stay we decided not to return.

The posted speed limit is in this campground is 5 mph. And 10, even for the first 100 yards upon on arrival might as well be a felony. -We learned the hard way. It was 4 pm, we’ve been driving for 6 hours, we’re anxious to get to camp, and we almost miss the turn because the road sign is a bit small. No biggie, we think, and we turn in at about 15 mph. A man (JC) was cutting the lawn, and right away he yelled at us to slow down. We slowed down quickly, but safely, and continue toward the office. When he got to the office he reminded us: “Five MPH is the cardinal rule!” and “seasonal campers are number one around here, and they don’t like dust!” Despite our apologetic response, this is how things began.

After realizing who we were and that we had paid in advance for most of our stay, JC took us to our site. Very nice. Since it was getting dark, our focus was setting up, but JC returned twice in the space of two hours to collect the rest of the fee. And he could not accept a debit or credit card payment. Cash or check only. We apologized again and explained that we would get cash as soon as we had a chance to go to an ATM, and we continued to set up camp. Then we departed to visit some friends nearby. Dinner at our friend’s home turned into an overnight stay, so job one upon our return to camp the next morning was to pay the fee. Cash. In full.

The next few days we had a good time swimming in the beautiful lake and dock area, running, biking, cooking out, and enjoying the spectacular sunsets and other scenery. But JC never seemed far away. I felt like we were under constant surveillance.

Our friends. She is 70 and he is 80. We met them on the beach of the Bay Islands on our honeymoon. They have owned an historic camp in Grand Isle for 40 years. Since they were so gracious on our first night in Grand Isle, we wanted to return the favor: Home-made paella cooked over an open fire in my Dutch oven, and a good Malbec. Things were fine until JC showed up just dinner to let us know that our guests had “parked in the wrong place” and “Who are you? Why haven’t you registered? I pay $35,000 per year here in liability insurance, and guests are required to pay a $6 visitor fee”. We enjoyed the rest of the evening, but in the morning my wife and I decided to cut short our stay.

We departed unannounced two days before we had planned to go and we spent an impromptu additional two days in Montreal before retuning to our home in New York City.

We represent the future of upscale camping. This campground is in a gem of a location but we will not return. Our suggestion: raise your rates a bit, hire professional to manage your resort, and stay out of the way. Until then, we’ll camp elsewhere.

We love this campground! It’s so clean and the staff is very friendly. They have immaculate laundry rooms and plenty of campwide activities from golf cart parades to Hawaiian parties. Clean pools and nice camp store.

The park is extremely clean and the pond is great for fishing for bucket mouths. This will be our third season here and we will be here for a long long time to come. There are grocery stores and also a Wal-Mart and Home Depot very nearby as well as the Racino gambling casino in Saratoga about 40 minutes away. What more could you ask for?

I rate this campground 5 stars and recommend it to all my friends!

Last month we had one of the most enjoyable camping weekends in a long time at Lake George Escape. The staff was friendly and courteous. The grounds and facilities were clean and well maintained. Our site had full hookups and was comfortably large.

They have a very nice restaurant “Cafe Alfresco” centrally located in the middle of the property with very good food at reasonable prices. They offer all kinds of activities including miniature golf, canoeing, river tubing and more. Nice pool! Several nights a week they have a DJ and line dancing lessons.

Lake George Escape is easy to get to from I-87 (the Northway) and is convenient to Lake George and nearby attractions, there’s simply no better place from which to enjoy all that the Lake George area offers.

Bring your bug spray… about the only annoying thing about this place is the mosquitoes. They were brutal.

Apple Island Resort is located in the Champlain Valley Region of northwestern Vermont. The resort is approximately 6 miles from I-89, exit 17 on US Route 2. Apple Island Resort includes a campground, a 9-hole golf course, marina and general store.

We arrived on a Friday afternoon in July for a weekend stay. The drive up I-89 from New Hampshire is absolutely beautiful and this part of Vermont’s Champlain Valley is especially picturesque. Our check-in was quick and the front desk attendants were friendly and efficient.

The campground is fairly large (242 sites on 188 acres). The property is a mix of open, sunny areas and tree shaded. The grassed areas and landscaping was neat and well maintained. The bathrooms, showers and laundry facilities were all newer construction, very clean and well stocked.

The major interior roads were paved and well maintained. The side roads were packed gravel, some a tad narrow but still in good condition and navigable to even the largest RVs. Our pull-thru site was level and a confortable size with plenty of room for our awning and slide outs. All sites have a picnic table and a fire ring.

Campground amenities include a large new “community” center with a fitness room, library (with an Internet-enabled PC), and a large function room. Next to the community center is an Olympic-size heated swimming pool and hottub, restrooms, showers and a laundry room. There are two other restroom buildings located elsewhere in the campground.

The resort also has a small, 9-hole par 3 “executive” golf course and a full service marina… definitely amenities that set this campground apart from most.

Rounding out the feature list is a small playground, walking and biking trails and a respectable schedule of activities for both kids and adults. There is a general store located at the entrance to the campground. The store stocks groceries and camping supplies. They also serve breakfast and lunch items. The campground is also “pet-friendly”.

The resort has a great wi-fi system. I noticed several hotspots as we walked through the property and we were able to “see” several of them from our site. The signal was strong and consistant.

Apple Island Resort is a great campground to spend a few days and a perfect base for exploring this part of Vermont and Upstate New York. That said, it’s not without a flaw or two…

At least half of the sites at this campground are either permanent vacation “homes” or for seasonal campers. While that may not be a factor for some, we do find that it takes a bit away from the camping experience. I will say that these permanent sites are clean and very well maintained, which is more than I can say for most campgrounds.

With the high number of permanent sites (as well as the golf course) comes a lot of golf cart traffic. It wasn’t unusual to see several carts buzzing past our site at a time throughout the day (and evening). If you’ve got little ones, keep an eye out for them… carts don’t make much noise.

Apple Island Resort also boasts of a snack bar, which we were looking forward to trying… but it was closed. One of the resort employees told us that they did not open it this year because they were trying to get their general store off the ground and the snack bar would be competition.

And while we’re on the subject of the general store, most of the items on the shelves don’t have prices. What’s up with that? You find out what something costs when you check out (an it’s usually too expensive). That’s very inconsiderate to customers and it stopped us and a few others from spending money there.

There is no cable TV at this campground. However Burlington, Vermont and Plattsburg, NY are within signal distance so you can receive the major networks, including the digital subchannels with an antenna.

While the campground does have rules, there always seems to be campers who feel they are the exception. Every night there were quite a few kids riding their bikes through the campground in total darkness. There were also a group of campers who felt the need to test the limits of their stereo and play their music as loud as possible all day long. We really felt sorry for the campers near this group. I know if we had a site near this group, we would have left for another campground. They did at least have enough courtesy to tone it down during quiet hours.

That being said, Apple Island Resort is still a wonderful campground. It’s well maintained, has lots of amenities and it’s located in a beautiful part of Vermont. It’s just not for us.

This Adirondack RV resort park has everything you want in an RV/camping resort – sunny sites or treed sites depending on your preference. The park can accommodate up to 40 ft. motorhomes and has full hook-ups. It also provides cabin rentals that are really nice.

We had had no problems with aircard access, cell phone problems (we have Verizon for both) and open sites receive satellite service just fine.
The park has river access, a pool, pavillion, store, children’s play area, entertainment, horseshoes, kid’s game room, etc. The restrooms are immaculate and the staff are always there to help.

The location of the resort is great as well as you are close to Lake George and not far from Saratoga, Lake Placid, Schroon Lake, Montreal, and Lake Champlain.

The two “best features” of the park are Linda and Leroy who manage it every season. They not only keep it in tip-top shape, but are two of the nicest and most generous and accommodating people you could ever meet. They both make your stay a delight.

While the campground is not a new one, it certainly is a lovely one and improvements are being made as we speak to update it and improve it.

We definitely would recommend this campground to families, couples, retirees. There are amenities for every age and every taste at Adirondack Adventures Schroon River Resort.

This campground is terrible. No one should ever go there! Now, if you believe that, perhaps this fantastic place will never fill up and we can always get a spot here.

If you are coming from New York, take the ferry from Plattsburg. When you get off the ferry turn left and go down the road less than a mile and you have arrived.

There are about 60 or so sites ranging from full service (no cable) to tents. Some of the sites are right on the lake and others are only a few steps away. The campground roads are more than adequate. The sites are level and carpeted with a beautiful lawn. The restrooms and showers are clean, but small. The owner is one of the most helpful we’ve encountered. He will do almost anything to make your stay enjoyable.

By the way, The “Adult” in the campground name does not mean what some may think. It merely suggests that adults might find this campground more to their liking than children. There are no activities for kids, no playgrounds or sandboxes.

Area activities include the many faces of Burlington (20 minutes away), the Shelbourne Museum (plan at least a day to visit), Vermont Teddybear Factory (just down the road from the museum), Stowe, Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream Factory, and a host of other places to visit.

There are a few seasonals who make the place sparkle. They’re friendly and helpful.

Don’t miss this place if you are in the Burlington area. Above all, do not write good reviews about this place. Too many people will discover it and cause it to be booked solidly through the season.

It’s a quiet, well maintained park just far enough away from the traffic and crowds of the village yet close enough to be convenient.

Campsites are mostly wooded with plenty of shade. The campground staff were very friendly and the facilities were clean and well maintained. This park has 165 campsites (75 full hookups (25 50-amp cable, 50 30-amp), 70 water & elec (15, 20 & 30 amp receptacles), seasonal sites, 3 restrooms, each with hot showers, camp store (ice, wood, groceries, camping supplies, gifts, antiques), dumping station, and laundry facilities

We’ve been making Lake George a part of our summer vacations now for over 20 years and this is the 5th time we’ve stayed at Adirondack Camping Village. Every experience here has been great!

While a few sites are paved, the vast majority are gravel. There are 350 sites with full hook-ups (30/50 amps). There are both wooded and open sites available.

Amenities include 4 playgrounds, 7 tennis courts, indoor and heated outdoor pools, 2 movie theaters, 2 video arcades, 10 pool tables, paved bicycle trails, a stocked fishing pond, paddle boats and in season entertainment. If your kids say “there’s nothing to do”, then you’ve got problems.

If you like peace and quiet, this park may not be for you. Summertime brings tons of kids and lot’s of activity. There are less active sections of the park that will give you some solice but on the whole, big parks with lots of perks mean lots of activity. On the other hand, Lake George RV Park is the perfect campground for families with kids looking for amenities to keep everyone occupied.

This was one of the worst reception we have ever received on arrival at an RV Park. The owner met us at the gated entry and when informed that we belonged to Passport America he became hostile. He told us that he had nothing but trouble from Passport America members and that he didn’t really want us there!!! He told us that he was withdrawing from being a Passport America campground. We have notified Passport America about our experience here but also noted that this campground is still an active PA park on their website. I would not recommend that you stay at this campground.

We don’t normally patronize private campgrounds that have been bought by large corporations, but work in Albany brought us to this place for several days. I chose to stay here because of the proximity to the work site and the recommendation from a seasonal camper at Deer Run.

The entrance road is quite pretty, the interior roads are just plain perfect. Quite a bit of the park is filled with seasonals, all are landscaped, decorated, and beautiful. The facilities are as clean as can be, even the laundry room was entertaining. The hook-ups are modern complete with cable TV and optional Telephone for long-term. All sites are large and level with a variety of wooded and open space. The 4 swimming pools are clean enough for surgical instruments and some are for adults only.

I found two game rooms for the kids that were stocked with everything any kid of any age can enjoy. There is also banquet facilities for weddings, graduations, etc. The playgrounds were all perfect for kids of all ages.

The only disappointment I found was the front desk staff had little knowledge of camping rigs and the limitaitions involved in various parking situations. I was assigned a site near my friend that was a drive-in, despite my total rig size including tow vehicle. I managed to do it, and it was fine for the purpose, but could have been a problem for other drivers.
