Oklahoma City East KOA – Choctaw, OK
Helpful is the first word that comes to mind for this nice, woodsy KOA campground (every site has trees). The bumps on I-40 are so bad (keep this in mind when planning routes) that our black water PVC pipe came loose from its hook to the frame, and I had to get out and do some duct tape work. I asked the owner (a friendly guy in a beard) if he had a coathanger, and he dropped everything and got me one. That kind of generous service is way beyond what I expect. Thanks! Also, the pool is very nice, the whole campground has been cleaned of poison ivy (not a leaf of it anywhere, which is always nice to note), there’s a great mile-long nature trail, and they’re putting in more level sites.
Although it’s advertised as OK City East, it’s in a country setting, about ten or so miles east from OK City and five from Tinker AFB. There’s a gas station/convenience store at the exit, and it’s a mile north of 40. The bathrooms and the laundry rooms are all AC’ed to a cold temp! They’re also spotlessly clean. No cable, so bring a DVD–we enjoyed Old School. There’s wifi, but we didn’t need it. Again, when you need some help on the road, it’s always nice to find a nice and helpful campground owner.
