I have visited Brown Mountain Beach several times. I found this to be one of the most tranquil places left on the east coast. The facilites are very clean, and the staff is the best. The water is so clean in the river that you can drink it directly. I sat out in the middle of the river on some of the smooth flat rocks, and I have to say it was the most relaxing moment I have had in years. I have camped my entire life, and visited many places, but nothing quite compares to this Brown Mountain Beach. If you need even more aloneness, drive up the road a mile or so, and visit the trails. You will see what life was like before our modern time. incredible.
