I write this after spending time at the American RV Park in Albuquerque, NM. We chose it over the place next door to it because Gail, behind the counter, was lovely and the premises were very nice. We are into our 4th year on the road and we travel most of the time. We don?t stay in one place for more than a week or two except for a month in the winter in the Southwest.

Unfortunately, sometimes we run into parks that are unkempt, but only for the second time have we encountered management that was less than pleasant. We respect rules, pick up trash that isn?t ours where we stay, etc, as we try to live a pleasant life on the road.I wasn?t going to write after talking to the managers, Garland and Pamela Wright, until speaking to the lady behind the counter at the Balloon Festival Museum. Among other things, I was telling her that we?re trying to decide where to reserve a spot for next October?s festival, and out of the blue she warned me against staying at the American RV Park. She said it was a terrible place and the management is very unfriendly. She had stayed there in the past and would never go back. Mmmmmm? It wasn?t just us.

The first morning, we walked to breakfast and were relaxed, happy, and comfortable. The female staff was very friendly and all was right. Garland Wright, ?outside manager?, walked to our table… only our table, and asked harshly if our truck was parked in a site outside. We said no and he turned and walked away without a word. No sorry, no thank you, no excuse me, or anything, which was an assault on our senses. The second morning we drove our car to breakfast and parked in a handicapped space. We got out of the car and smiled as Garland approached. He blatantly marched to the rear of the car, bent over, stood up and said, ?I don?t see a handicapped plate.? I said, ?Excuse me. You?ve been on our case since we arrived and if you will look in the front window where our permit is, you will see it is exactly where it is supposed to be. Thank you very much!? Once again, our senses had been assaulted and ruined what should have been a pleasant experience.

After we ate, I spoke to Pamela and said it was uncomfortable as it was her husband who was rude. She told me to take it up with him. I did and after going around and around he shook my hand and apologized. I felt that was fine until I went to the museum and heard the opinion of another who had an unpleasant experience. Our last day we went to breakfast and all the female staff was lovely except for Pamela who was behind the counter. She ignored our ?Good Morning? and wouldn?t say a word or even acknowledge us.

We?re gladly on our way now and have a list of parks they own. We will take care no to visit them again. We and some other friends were going to reserve spots for the festival next year?not now. These owners should be aware as it does affect their business in more ways than one. Bad news always travels faster than good news. When I Googled this business to find where to send this letter, I found negative reviews of the management of the American RV Park already posted. This letter will be posted on various RV talk groups

Living ?on the road? is a privilege and a wonderful way of life. Spending our money at campgrounds that are higher priced than others, as is this campground, is a choice we make to add to the experiences we enjoy. Our money was not well spent at this park. As I found another posting and read the letter of discontent regarding Garland and Pamela I decided to add a few other things that they were addressing: disrespect to the customer, posted rules they do not follow as in telling people to get out of the pool area before posted closing, a lovely Jacuzzi that closes at 6 p.m. which makes it impossible to use if one chooses to sightsee and eat dinner, no one answering the phones before posted closing time which keeps one from finding out if there is space in the park, serving Sunny Delight labeled as orange juice which is not fair for diabetics.

Perhaps some sensitivity training, manners and graciousness is in order for these particular managers as we didn?t sign on for Boot Camp.

Regretfully,

I won’t have dinner there? I’ll bet they didn’t even deliver Capucino to your site. The Nerve…camping can really be a pain in your….

These comments helped me a lot. I will stay clear of this campground. I am trying to find safe and not to expensive places to stay as I travel I-40 this summer. I am already finding so many restrictions as I travel in a older (more than 10 yrs.) ford van rv, “with out a built in shower”
… which seams to be what some campground judge??? whether or not they will let you stay at their place, sight unseen, even though my van is well kept up and polished… oh one other restriction I am encountering… I travel with my small Jack Russel, a dreaded dog…and my pal.
