Showers are available at the village laundrette with attendents. In the village you can find a general store, museum, marina, restaurant, gift shop and a host other various activites. A short order grill is available that has wonderful food. Be prepared for a wait but well worth it. The chili is wonderful for an evening meal and menu for breakfast is great.

There is an RV Park with full hook ups located there in which reservation will need to be made. $55.00 a night in season and $42.00 a night late season. No fire pits but you do have picnic tables. There is horseback riding and lots of scenic hiking trails and nightly fire-side chats.

We have stayed there at least 5 times and will be back many more times as it is a wonderful place to stay and site see from to Yellowstone, Jackson Hole and points beyond.

If you go to Elk mountain you can see Elk coming down from the mountain to feed around dusk. There is a scenic photo-op from the top of Elk Mountain. Be sure to visit it.

You get full hookups, water, sewer, electric, and laundry and showers. The laundry and showers were so-so. It was adequate for the price. The sites are all on grass. When I got there, no one was on duty… it was self registration. There was a Good Sam logo, so I contacted the phone number displayed to inquire as to whether I can take the Good Sam discount. It rang to the police station. The person who answered the phone said that the police station answers the phone on weekends. Lovely. They weren’t sure if I could take the discount or not, so I was told to wait and pay in the morning. Guess what, it turned out I COULD take the discount! I paid $18, full price was $20 as of this writing.

The sites are grassy, and are “front and back twosies.” Sites 1-24 are for the overnighters. Other sites are for perms. There were a few perms there at the time. This is an area that can get windy, and it was windy the night I stayed there.

The campsites were gravel and level and a comfortable size. The entire property appeared to be well maintained… including the facilities. The bathrooms were squeaky clean. They had a very nice pool for the kids too! The camp store was well stocked and had a nice selection of gifts and local souvenirs.

Indian Campground is about halfway between Mt. Rushmore and Yellowstone so it was a good base to visit these attractions a we had a week to spend exploring the area. I highly recommend this campground.

Ponderosa Campground is within walking distance (although it’s a bit of a hike) of Cody’s downtown area complete with museums, shops and restaurants.

About the park… The owners and staff were friendly and helpful. The restrooms and showers were clean and very well maintained. The only negatives… it was a bit crowded when we stayed and it tends to get a little dusty because of the gravel roads. If you’ve got a big rig, they have a section just for us… big pull-thru sites, 50 amp hookups and cable TV. They also have free wi-fi.

The campground has lots of room for pull-thrus and our kids were able to stay in a tent by the creek. The hot springs were only a few minutes away and we had a great time!

All the facilities here are clean, modern and well maintained. They have a range of sites available, with plenty of room for big rigs. From low cost back-ins to standard pull thrus, and up to the Deluxe RV sites which include full fencing, patio, BBQ and even a spa! The campground is nicely landscaped too.

The Main Building has a fully equipped convenience store with RV and tenting supplies, groceries, T shirts, and souvenirs as well as a recreation room for cards, board games and puzzles. The building also includes bathrooms, private individual showers, and laundry facilities.

They also have a row of cabins. Each cabin has a TV/VCR, a picnic table, free standing grill, and a front porch swing. You can rent movies at the store. Other amenities include a playground, a heated pool, and an adults only spa. The campground is pet friendly.

We stayed here last weekend and loved it!

During our visit we found poorly maintained bathrooms, and a spa that was so “cruddy” that I feel it was unsafe. The pool was marginal. The laundry was equally bad.  The worst part of our visit was that the fees charged were in excess of $60.00 night. The campsites were gravel and close together.

Just down the road was an excellent National Park. Although it only offers dry camping, it was much nicer.

No landscaping, just a large gravel lot, with 30 and 50 amp. However, the office and laundry are in two cute little “barn” buildings. This resort is year round and water faucets are insulated against harsh Wyoming weather. If you have a surge protector from Camping World, you can use it here, it will fit.

There are three sections of “back to backs” that the staff told me are being converted to long pull throughs. The spots still have “two” of everything. I was in one of them, and the one thing I didn’t like was that I had to cross my electric and cable cords, as well as my water hose across the sewer hose for the sewer. The other sewer connection was located under the picnic table of the neighboring slot. I’m sure your neighbor will really appreciate it if you use that one. Be sure to have disinfectant wipes to wipe off your hoses and cords.

The showers were clean, but they are only available when the office is open. The very nice and cute laundry area is open later hours and has a change machine, and special washers for extra dirty clothes in addition to other washers and dryers. However, if you are in the “full hookup” sections, it’s a bit of a hike to the laundry area.

There are very nice pet areas, one of them is fenced so you can let your pet run around without a leash. Cable and WiFi were good. You are given a 24 hour code to use for each day you stay. The Wi-Fi can only be used for browsing and email checking, no large files or movies. Park was still charging “winter” rates. Rate was $23 before taxes and discounts.

This park has a very unique way of applying discounts and taxes. The Good Sam discount is $3 a day, which equated to a little more than 13%. Then, the sales/lodging tax is applied to the base rate before the discounts. Bottom line, it was still affordable.

Western Hills Campground is a good stopover while on Interstate 80.

The staff were all exceptionally friendly and helpful, right from the moment we arrived, when they were very detailed in discussing all the thing there are to do in the area. Plus, they were able to make reservations, and sell tickets, for a lot of the area activities – the Rodeo, river rafting, tram tour, etc.

The whole park was clean, neat, and well-maintained. Based on our experience here, we will definitely be back, and whole-heartedly recommend this park to others.
