We had a very nice full-hookup site that was large and level with nice views of Falcon Lake. There’s a boat launch right in the park which makes it a great place to boat and fish. There’s some truly great bass fishing to be done here… and we saw many fisherman return with some of the largest bass you’ve ever seen.

Next time, we’re bringing our rods… and staying longer.

We found this to be a mostly motor home/giant 5th wheel park of winter Texans who appeared to come for the whole season each year. There wasn’t much room for newcomers–social circles are pretty tight.

The thing that we liked least is not the park’s fault, but an issue for us. The park is very close to the border and Border Patrol helicopters flew at night frequently awakening us, back and forth. The newspaper was full of stories about shootings and there were tales in the park of having to go to the movie theater in the am so as to avoid your truck being stolen.

I suppose if you wanted to stay within the gates, wear ear plugs to bed, and venture out only in groups during the daylight this isn’t a problem. We like the Tex-Mex culture a lot–but this patch of ground seems to be under seige.

Country Place RV Park is definitely a place where we will come back to on a regular basis.

This campground is located on Jones Lake on West Bay near Galveston, Texas. Sites are offered for short term or extended stay. There are two pavilions with tables and a barbecue grill. The campground has two 250′ lighted fishing piers into west bay for excellent evening fishing and crabbing (traps available for your use). All camp sites have water, sewer, and separately monitored meters for electricity. Cable and WiFi are included here too.

Tiki Tom’s is easy off access to Interstate 45, at Exit 4 Tiki Island. This is the entrance to Galveston Island. From here, it’s ten minutes to the Strand and beach and 25 minutes to Clear Lake City area and 45 minutes to downtown Houston and Hobby airport area. There are many sites to see or you can just sit back and relax at the park and look at the water and the beautiful west side sunsets on Jones Lake every day of the year. This is a simple facility with great access to Houston and Galveston.

The staff was courteous but the place was rather run-down. It appears that most of the campers there were full-timers. We were disappointed because the website said the RV sites were on the lake. When we arrived the sites were on a canal leading to the lake. We didn’t even get a glimpse of the lake. It was difficult to position the trailer to reach the water, sewage, and electricity, since they were all spread out around our campsite.

I wouldn’t stay there again and wouldn’t recommend it to any other campers.

The park is clean, well maintained. Sites are dirt/grass. Concrete or gravel would be much better for when it rains and the mud. Very scenic with the rivers running around it. Lots of trees but not all sites are shaded. They offer WIFI for a fee. For a month it was $40.

They have a swimming pool and tube rentals for the river. They offer cabins for rent but unsure if you can use them if not a member.

Park staff leaves much to be desired. I would have given this park a higher rating had their staff actually enforced their rules and respected their paying guests. On the evening of 10/10/09 the park rented out the Tres Rios Palace building in the park, which is by the public campsites, to a private party with a very loud DJ. The booming base of the music literally vibrated the camper. Sheriff on hand at the party measured the decibel level at 82 but couldn’t shut it down unless it was over 85. So management would have to do something, which they didn’t. Quiet time for the park is 10pm. Management allowed the party and vibrating base to continue until 1 am, expecting their paying RVers and members to tolerate such a nuisance until late in the night. Many of our neighbors were equally annoyed.

I wouldn’t suggest ever paying to become a member of Ocean Canyon Properties when you will be asked to tolerate such private events. And if you are not a member and thinking of staying nightly, I would avoid the park on Saturday nights when they seem to book private parties. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.

They now use extremely strong air fresheners & chemicals in ALL their buildings. (I’m very chemically sensitive.) They informed us that only one bath house was open only after they had taken our payment for the stay, and didn’t bother to tell us that the air conditioner in the open rest room wasn’t working or that people smoked in it.

They required that we park the trailer on one end of the pad or the other; in the middle wasn’t allowed,  so our sewer wouldn’t reach. We did plug into electricity for 45 min-1hr for our grandkids, at the urging of a park worker. We talked to the assisitant manager who said she understood our problem, as she has a relative who can’t be around perfume. She promised us a full refund and put it in writing on our receipt and said it had to be paid out by the manager. The manager put us off for several days, then told us they sent the refund check to our house. When it came, it was shorted $46.60. One night’s stay and a partial cancellation and credit card fee, and we didn’t even use a credit card to pay.

I would suggest you go to Blazing Star, down the street, or Traveler’s World , a little closer to town.

We really enjoyed strolling out to relax under the gazebo on the island, and paddling around in the resort’s (free) paddle boats. Plus, the (Texas-shaped) swimming pool directly overlooks the lake. The whole place is neat and clean and the staff was really nice in helping us decide the best local places to visit (there’s lots to choose from). We did great day trips to the coast, and to Mexico.

We’d come back here again in a minute.

Our check-in is always handled polite and professionally.  We get good directions or we are led to our site by an on-premise park host. They have excellent amenities that are well-maintanined and exceptionally clean.

Only complaint that I have is unless we plan our trip and call early sometimes they are full and can’t handle us. They are proud they have a 90%+ occupancy rate year-round and approximately 65% is repeat business.

In our opinion, this is what an RV park should be. The property has lots and lots of trees, asphalt streets and improved sites. The bathrooms are always clean and they have a great recreation room.  I almost forgot the fishing in their private lake!
