The campground consists of 12 RV sites and 5 tent sites. The property has outstanding views of the Black Hill’s forest and granite peaks. Most of the sites are under shady pines with great views all around! The staff was very nice and made us feel at home. Rates are extremely reasonable… tent sites are $20, and full hook-up RV sites are $27.

There is a 5 acre meadow for a relaxing evening stroll, or a healthy jog if you’ve a mind to. They have a play area for the children, and horseshoes for everyone.

The Roost Resort is centrally located to visit the many sights and attractions in The Black Hill’s. The town of Custer is 1 1/2 miles west and the entrance to Custer State Park is about 2 miles east. Mount Rushmore National Memorial is a 30 minute drive, and Crazy Horse Memorial is a 10 minute drive. It’s an excellent base for exploring the area.

The campground features two levels, upper & lower. The upper level accommodates pull-thrus with over 60 sites, and the lower level accommodates campers and tents with over 60 sites. All sites have water and electric, and each site on the upper level also has sewer connections and the choice of 30 or 50 amp electric service. Most of the sites are  paved and fairly level.

There are plenty of trees throughout the property for shade. Amenities included a large heated pool & hot tub, laundromat, arcade/playground, full propane service, groceries, souveniers and RV parts. They also have Wi-Fi, which worked great!

The facilites were clean and well maintained. The staff was friendly and courteous. I recommend Lazy J. We plan on returning again this summer.

I stayed two nights, and paid for cable one night, and didn’t the other night. The cable was pretty decent. Without the cable, you can pull in two channels, FOX and NBC, via antenna. No Wi-Fi, but Verizon Air Card worked very well.

The campground is pretty typical, with fire ring and barbecue grill at each site. The sites are gravel/dirt, with some grass between each site. The water connection is goofy. The water connection is dual and is placed between every other site. So, depending on what site you get, your water connection may be on the “wrong” side and you might require extra hose. I would try to avoid getting placed in sites 15 and 40. Both of those sites are near the walking path to the lake. On the other hand, site 15 does have a great view of the lake, and is the only site that does. If you want the view of the lake, then you have to put up with the parade of people going down the path. But if the park isn’t busy, this isn’t a big issue. Bathrooms and laundry were so so….. But I do have to comment on the washers in the laundry; the washers seemed to be larger capacity than what I usually see in RV Parks. For $1.50 on a wash, I managed to stuff a lot of clothes in the washer!

There is a children’s play area. This is a nice park for overnighting. If you don’t tow a car, you are within walking distance of a good grocery store, liquor store (for those that need….), ShopKo, and some pizza restaurants.

The owner told us the city of Custer has no cable so I would recommend a campsite near Rapid City where you will have all the conveinences.

We decided to leave 2 day’s early because we ran out of things to do in the cold rain. We asked to be refunded for our 2 days and were denied. We found nothing special about this campground and recommend that you stay somewhere else!

The couple that own the campground were great… friendly and helpful. We enjoyed their company very much. The campground was quiet. The property was mostly shaded which was hard to find in this area of South Dakota.

We can’t wait to go back this summer.

There are tons of recreational opportunities here including camping, picnicking and playground areas, swimming beach, miniature golf, softball, volleyball, horseshoes and miles of rambling recreational trails throughout the park. The park also has special attractions such as Storybook Land, the Land of Oz and wildlife exhibits featuring deer, elk, buffalo and a variety of birds.

The campground is beautiful. There are 92 full hook-up sites, each with a large paved pad, concrete patio and a picnic table. Neatly maintained grass areas are between each site, with some trees scattered about. Easy access for big rigs too. They also have several camping cabins.

The large Campground Registration Building features a spacious lobby and registration area along with a camp store with a good selection of camping supplies, groceries and souvenirs. There is a laundry room with six washers and dryers. Internet access is provided to campers at no charge to check their email.

Wylie Park is a great family camping and recreational opportunity. Tons of amenities and things to do in a beautiful setting!

My kids had a magical time and beg me to go back even though it’s nearly a 1700 mile drive each way.

This was our first long trip in our trailer, and we were a long way from home, but the wonderful people at this campground were very reassuring and helpful. If we ever make it back up to South Dakota, we will definitely stay at Big Pine!

They really feature top-of-the-line cabins and cottages, and have a small campground in the back of the property. Class A’s and large 5ths would be pushing the envelope here. There’s only a few sites on the property, each with a great view of the Black Hills. Only two-way hook-up is available and a dump station upon departure. Everything about the property is clean, quaint and quiet.There are no recreational amenities. Our most exciting activity was to watch the sunset over the Black Hills and count the deer surrounding us.

Mount Rushmore, Crazy Horse, Hot Springs, and Custer State Park are all nearby. We also enjoyed Bear Country USA which is a drive-thru wildlife Park. Take the time to drive to the peak of Coolidge Mountain. Using the pay-per-view binoculars you can clearly see Rushmore and Crazy Horse plus several natural landmarks.

The Wildlife Loop in Custer State Park will put you face to face with the largest bison herd in North America. We found the herd as a thunderstorm was coming so they were on the move. It was exciting as the giant animals strolled past our truck.

The Roost Resort is a quiet little paradise for small to mid-sized units. The tent area is shaded, grassy, and private with a nice view and close proximity to toiletries. Our 25′ Trailer has a low profile so we fit very nicely. I’m not sure I would try it with anything bigger.

But here’s the real love… we stopped for groceries in downtown Custer and found thick cut T-Bone steaks for $1.99/pound!!! Our freezer was just too small but our stomachs were just the right size.

Just a mile south you’ll find the Interior Campground and Motel. The sites are level gravel with little or no shade just like the National Park. For four dollars more, you can have full hook-up. We would have preferred the view from the National Park, but the heat was intense.The motel, showers, and campground facilities are modest, but suitable. The owners and employees are relaxed and happy. Everybody from big rigs to motorcycles can be at home here. They even have a Tee Pee for rent!

I wouldn’t say that Interior Campground is a resort destination, but it is an excellent home-base for exploring the Badlands. The owners do not confine their dogs in any way, which seems to be a potential problem for other dog owners. Spend an evening in the lobby with the owners and their friends and you’ll feel right at home.
