Holiday Acres Family Campground – North Scituate, RI

Holiday Acres is a good size campground with well over 200 sites, about half of which are full hook-ups on 400 acres. The facilities were clean and well maintained, however most are in need of upgrading.

Amenities include lake swimming, fishing, boating, adult and teen halls, safari camping, a petting zoo, playground, minigolf, scheduled meals and activities, and Saturday live entertainment in season.

This is definitely a “family oriented” campground. We stayed there this past weekend and there were a ton of kids.

Bowdish Lake Camping Area – W. Glocester, RI

Bowdish Lake is located in West Glocester, Rhode Island just off US Route 44… near the Connecticut border.

It’s a nice campground with mostly wooded, roomy sites. The campground has two nice beaches. Our kids had so much fun here. The campground is very family friendly, especially in the “Orange section” of the campground.

The seasonal campers that we met were very nice, and seasonal rates seemed very affordable. This campground is a hidden diamond in the rough. Their website is www.bowdishlake.com. Telephone: 401-568-8890. We stayed there in August 2009.

Whispering Pines Campground – Hope Valley, RI

I would consider Whispering Pines to be a “better than average” campground. It’s conveniently located about 3 miles west of I-95 exit 2, on RI Route 138. We stayed there for a long weekend last fall. The park is fairly large, with about 180 very large, level, spacious sites. Full hook-ups and pull-thrus are available for larger rigs.

The owners were very friendly and made us feel quite welcome. The campground is fairly quiet except that it tends to get noisy at night, especially on weekends… that was the only thing we really minded.

Whispering Pines has plenty of amenities and planned activities… a large pool, mini-golf, complementary paddleboats and conoes on a spring-fed pond, shuffle board, tennis, a nice recreation hall, game room, playground, open air pavillion, horseshoes, basketball, softball, and a great planned recreational program that includes swiming lessons.

We plan on returning this summer.

Meadowlark RV Park – Middletown, RI

Meadowlark RV Park is located in the Newport, Rhode Island area. It’s the closest RV park to Newport. Located between first and second beach. Seems to have a loyal repeat clientel.
Mostly level, small, grass covered, back-in sites. Many seasonal campers located in front of park. Transient campers are in rear. Transient sites have electric (30 amp) only. Provision for taking on water, provided at entrance next to dump station.No activities provided. No restrooms or showers. Well behaved pets and their owners are welcome.
Reasonably priced, but cash only.

Whispering Pines Campground – Hope Valley, RI

Whispering Pines is a nice spot, but not well kept. The sites are small, and the grounds are not very well maintained. Watch out for the security woman wearing a gold badge.

Whispering Pines had enough to do and was a relaxing place to stay. We camp alot throughout the year and I would say this place boarders on “Average”. This campground needs some tender love and care.
