We enjoy staying there, but there are a few problems. If you stay around 4th of July the fireworks noise lasts for another at least 4-5 days. Fireworks should be on the 4th not on any other day. At night there is a problem with golf carts! The kids there do not respesct the rules of the campground when it comes to driving. I look around and see underage children driving and fast! No respect for others! The campground security does not enforce the golf cart good enough. I understand that it is a huge campground but security is not good enough.

The sites have plenty of room with full hook ups. By the way, make sure you rent a golf cart to get around there because the property is huge!

The campground was filled with things to do for the kids including fishing, hiking, swimming, a big jumping pillow, a game room, minigolf, a playground, and a kiddy pool for my little one. The property is nicly landscaped and the bathhouses are very clean.

We were very happy with our stay. I recommend this place to everyone.

All the interior roads are paved real wide for easy access. There is no waterfront- but the very high elevation of the grounds offer amazing mountain-range views. Were going to stay 1 night and stayed the week. Sites 45-60 are on top if you stay or reserve a spot over the phone. They have a pool, showers, a clubhouse, and cabin lots, and there are Class A Lots for sale at the Sunset Ridge section with private facilities if you are looking for property. We took the tour with the owners… a nice, friendly couple.

We would stay here again. They are also pet friendly. While they DO accept children it looks like the park is more catered towards an adult crowd. There are no playgrounds or children areas. 828-349-0412 Camp Phone

We pulled in and they even walked out to our camper and said hello. We spent 2 nights here. They have free wi-fi and no, you do not have to go the office like many places. We got 5 bars in our rv!

It’s a great little campground, but call and make reservations as they seemed to be getting busy.

When we arrived we were told that they had really stopped the tubing the weekend before (even though we had told them we would like to go on the phone). So we had to convince them to let us tube. Then the river was blocked horribly by a tree that took us quite awhile to get around and when we arrived late to the pick up site and told him about the tree… he just got mad at us for being late.

There were aggressive bees nests at the campsites. Girls that had been kayaking at the same time as us (also using that Dan River adventures run by this campground) came over to visit our campsite when they got off the river and the owner came over and asked them to leave the campground because they did not sign in. He also told us that our music was too loud while we were setting up camp. This was around 4:30 or 5 pm. When I asked about quiet time not being until 10 he told me he could have me evicted for being drunk. Which I wasn’t. Other campers had music on until midnight and he never came to say anything. He drove down to the site in the morning and watched us to make sure we were packing up camp since we had gotten to the site before check in.

All in all… this was a horrible experience. We paid $26 dollars for one tent (3 girls) and $52 dollars for tubing… over $75 dollars to be treated badly at this campground.

The campground is owned and operated by wonderful Christian people. We will continue to come back every summer! We have also brought our Youth Group from chruch up to this campground two summers in a row now and they also love it!

In August, the weekends fill up somewhat, but during the week, we may be one of 2 or 3 rigs on our loop. It’s a bit on the high side in pricing, but well worth it in our family’s opinion. This year our quote was $76/night for two adults full hookup – cable TV is extra. With 2 kids, the price went up to $84/night.

The sites are spacious with level concrete pads and a picnic table (no campfires on site, but usually you can have one down on the beach). They spray for mosquitos nightly, there is sound and beach access within an easy 2-5 min. walk from any site in the campground, indoor, outdoor and kiddie pools, hot tub, game room, and organized activities. Play equipment, tennis courts, basketball courts, a mini-golf course and the pools are kept clean and in good repair, as is a huge covered picnic pavilion. There are 2 catch/release ponds on the property, but for pier fishing, Rodanthe Pier is a walk up the beach or road. Even when hubby was contacted by work, he could connect using the wi-fi that was available. The staff is really friendly and willing to answer questions whether it’s about babysitting options, the best place to go crabbing, or possible membership opportunities (an old retired program, but a few people look to sell each year – and they honor the transfer).

They won’t let you request certain sites, but you can request area/loop preferences. When our extended family (4 individual families with small kids) made arrangements, they worked with us to put us on spots that opened out onto and faced eachother.

We think it’s a great value for a top notch campground. There are many more ammenities here than a comparably priced beach hotel/motel. Plus, if you have a membership (like Good Sam or AAA), they honor their discounts!

They did not provide an escort to the site as all other KOA’s we’ve stayed at have. The sites are very close together with large, low overhanging tree limbs and narrow roads with little room to swing wide for the pullthrus. We ended up scraping a hole in the roof of our RV, then breaking the back window of the truck trying to get out of the site without doing anymore damage to the roof. When we went to management to ask for a site we could actually fit in, they told us “we don’t know the limbs need to be trimmed until guests tell us” ! One of the other campers told us they’d had a similar problem and asked why they didn’t have escorts. Management told them “they didn’t have time.” She also suggested to management that they might want to tell big rigs their sites are small, to which management said, “why would we shoot ourselves in the foot?”

The park is lovely and clean, but after doing $10,000 in damage to our rig, it’s unlikely we’d ever want to stay there again.

The staff was friendly and the rate ($33) was reasonable. My only problem was we stopped there because we needed to do laundry but the laundry setup was not the usual coin operated arrangement. You pay the staff (when on duty) to turn on the washer/ dryer. Therefore your can only wash during office hours when no one is using the one bathroom (one of two) which has the one washer/ dryer in it. I don’t see how they can claim to have a laundry.

It was a little too tight for our 38′ fifth wheel. We would probably not stay there again.

The campground is clean and well maintained to typical KOA standards. There is a good amount of shade from mature trees scattered throughout the property. Sites are comfortably large and they have full-hookup pull-thru sites that include free cable tv and can accommodate large rigs. They also have camping cabins, a playground, large laundromat, a nicely stocked campstore, and a large pool and planned activities in the summer months.

They also have free wi-fi, but I never get a chance to use it because most of our stays have been “arrive late and leave early the next morning”.

Smithfield KOA is a comfortable, reasonably priced campground that’s great for I-95 travelers looking for an easy on-off exit overnight stay. I recommend it!
