Dream Lake? Should be renamed Nightmare Lake!

As previous reviewers noted, the number one problem is the owner’s attitudes, have never seen anyone treat their customers so poorly. Customer service lesson number one, your customers are your paycheck!

The facilities are old and tired looking. The video game room is nonexistant. The bathroom facilities are atrocious. The  food service is poor. The Mini Golf is a  joke and they have the nerve to charge for it! The “Lake” is full of weeds, snapping turtles and leeches…check your kids carefully if you let them swim there. The playground consists of two rusty old swings, a dangerous jungle gym and an airplane that they put away on busy weekeds so it doesn’t get broken.

Activities are practically non-existant unless you count Bingo on Friday ($1.00 per game) and crafts for kids ($2.00 Charge Applies) That is a common theme…nearly everything comes at an extra charge, pedal carts, paddle boats, mini golf, your kids camping with you…extra fee!

There were no changes being made at this campground… at least none for the improvement. They did mention that this campground recently became a KOA in the past two years, doubtful it will remain a KOA unless some significant improvements are made! The only KOA in NYS that does not have a pool or any other amenities and has the nerve to be charging some of the highest rates in the area.

Our family has camped at Ledgeview RV Park several times over the past 10 years and have always been more than happy with our stay. It’s one of the most well maintained campgrounds we know of.

Ledgeview RV Park is located a few miles south of Lake George, on NY Route 149. The first thing you notice about the park when you enter is how clean and impeccably maintained everything is. The gated entrance is wide with plenty of room for even the largest rigs to park and check in. The entire property is tastefully landscaped. The staff is friendly and helpful and check in has always been quick and easy.

Interior roads are paved, relatively wide and I believe that just about every site is easy to get into. The park is located in fairly dense white pine forest and most of the sites are shaded. There are about 100 level, comfortably large gravel sites, about 60 of which are full-hookup (30 amps), including a generous CATV lineup.

Restrooms and showers are very well maintained. The campstore is small, with a limited selection of groceries and RV supplies including firewood. Other amenities include a large pool, rec hall, small game room. playground, shuffleboard, horseshoes, and rec field.

While the park has amenities to keep the kids happy, they may get boared after a day or two… the pace here is noticeably laid back. Summer nights here include quiet conversation around a campfire or a casual stroll around the park. Of the many times weve stayed here we’ve yet to see a rowdy party or screaming kids running amock through the park.

One of Ledgeview’s greatest attractions is it’s proximity to New York’s Adirondack Mountains and the Lake George area. There is so much to see and do just a few miles away… steamboat cruises on beautiful Lake George, Six Flags Great Escape Theme Park, outlet shopping, golfing, hiking, bicycling and more. You can easily spend a week here and just scratch the surface.

We’ve stayed at quite a few campgrounds all over the country in the past 25 years, and Ledgeview RV Park is easily one of our top 10!

Upon arriving at Alpine Lake Resort, the posted photos match what they have on their website. When we arrived at our site the campers in the surrounding area told me that they had “shoe horns” to help us into our site. They were NOT kidding.

A nice site right on the water… but… not meant for a rig of our size. The roads and sites on our side of the campground were tight and narrow and attention was a must at all times when coming and going. You could tell who camped regularly and who never did by the way they “flew” thru the campground roads.

Activities were not an everyday occurance and the extra charge for children was a cause for questioning. The arcade was only open if the vendor felt like opening it up. The facilities at the campground were in need of updating, one bath house near the pool did not even have bulbs in it.

The staff were all nice and friendly. We came here the end of July, beginning of August 2011

Finally! After a long, cold and snowy New England winter, camping season was officially here. Yeah, I know… it’s only May and I remember plenty of cold and rainy Memorial Day weekends, but even a bad weather vacation day is far better than a good day at work.

Our first camping trip of the year has always been an opportunity to see how well the RV made it through storage… but this year was different. We traded in the old RV for a brand new 38′ Class A and this was the first real opportunity to play with our new toy.

Ledgeview Village RV Park has been a regular stop for us over the past 15 years and we’ve never been disappointed. Since it’s been a year or two since our last stay, we decided to make it our first trip of the season.

Ledgeview Village is located about midway between Glens Falls and Lake George, New York, just west of US Route 9 on NY Route 149. The first thing you notice when you enter the campground is that this park is beautifully maintained. The gated property is always neatly mowed and landscaped. The paved entrance is wide and accommodating with plenty of room even during busy check-in periods. The owners and staff are friendly and accommodating. I stopped in about an hour after check-in to pick up some literature about the area and the person at the front desk went out of her way to ask about my interests and then pointed out a few publications that had what I was looking for.

The entire property is set in a forest of tall white pine. Most of the campground buildings are a rustic adirondack architecture. Interior roads are paved and well maintained, although a some are a little narrow. Nevertheless getting around won’t be a problem even if you’ve got a larger rig. Campsites are gravel, fairly level and comfortably large. Full hook-ups (30 & 50 amp) also include cable TV with an impressive amount of channels. Each campsite has a large picnic table and fire ring. The only problem we’ve had with our site was the amount of pine pitch that drips from the trees… but just about all the sites here are under pines so you just have to deal with it. Tents and pets are not permitted at this campground.

The laundry, restrooms and showers are clean and well maintained. Showers also include private dressing rooms. The park campstore has a good selection of basic groceries and camping supplies including ice and firewood. Park amenities include a large pool, recreation hall, pavilion, game goom, shuffleboard, horseshoes, children’s playground and “funcycle” rentals. Be aware that there are no scheduled events, so more active kids may become a bit bored. The Glens Falls/Lake George however is a great place to explore with the kids. The Great Escape/Splashwater Kingdom, a Six Flags theme park is just a few minutes away from the campground.

Ledgeview’s rates are very reasonable, considering the fact that the Lake George area is a bit on the expensive side. I would suggest buying your groceries and gas before you leave as prices are generally much higher here.

On the downside… the seasonal sites seem to be located throughout the park, with a number of them as you first enter, and there seem to be a few more every time we return. We all have a tendency to add a personal touch or two, but some of these sites are starting to resemble mini golf courses with statues, flags, low voltage lighting and painted rocks. Clean but cluttered.

Ledgeview Village RV Park is indeed what their ads boast: clean, peaceful, quiet and convenient. We confidently recommend this park.

Merry Knoll Campground in located in Clayton NY (Thousand Islands region). The property is on sloping land running down to the St. Lawrence River. Waterfront sites are occupied by seasonals, but most of the transient sites have a river view, although 5th-wheelers and large rigs may block some views.

Camp sites are fairly small, and open and sunny, with a little shade. The bath rooms are clean, although somewhat dated. The owners are friendly and helpful. The camp store is limited to bare necessities. Merry Knoll has the usual pool, small playground, etc., plus a fishing pier. There is no cable or wireless internet.

Overall, this campground is adequate as a base for exploring the Thousand Islands area.

This is another very nice KOA campground located in a great hillside country setting about 8 miles north of Cooperstown NY.

The park is clean and well maintained. Interior roads are gravel. Sites are fairly level and most are in open areas with a few shade trees. This is a great campground for larger rigs because the sites are comfortably large.

Many folks come here to visit the Baseball Hall of Fame, but there’s lots more to do around this quiet campground in the foothills of the Adirondacks. Camp here, and you’re just a couple miles from Lake Otsego, where you can rent boats and cast for bass. A Glimmerglass State Park trail leads to a grand overview of the lake and wooded hills.

The Leatherstocking Theatre and Glimmerglass Opera provide first-rate entertainment. Get a hands-on picture of farming in the mid-1800s at The Farmers Museum. You can still get a taste today, thanks to the Amish families who make their way to the campground by horse and buggy for Saturday bake sales in season. The pool, game room, banana bikes and hayrides also offer campers plenty to do. It all adds up to a full day, capped by a lovely sunset in the hills.

We’ve stayed here several times this year and plan on going back next summer!

This KOA is a great family campground with plenty to do for the kids! It’s conveniently located about 5 miles from I-90, exit 44 (NY Thruway), it’s a nice location in the heart of New York’s Finger Lakes Region.

The campground is clean and nicely maintained with lots of mowed lawn areas and a very nice lake. Interior roads are gravel in good condition and the sites are level. There are a good selection of sites ranging for everything from tents to RVs, although some of the sites are a bit small for big rigs.

This KOA offers plenty of amenities including a free stocked fishing pond, bike rentals, boat rentals, game room, mini golf, theme activity weekends, special programs -BINGO, campfires, wagon rides, FREE movie theater, cafe with breakfasts and dinners. Beautiful waterfront cabin rentals. Clubs and groups welcome to use their facilities. They have Wi-Fi and the coverage is good.

There’s plenty to see and in the Finger Lakes Region: horse races, Canandaigua Lake boat tours and swimming, Sonnenberg Gardens, wineries – tours, golf courses, Roseland Water Park, Granger Homestead, antiques and flea markets. City of Rochester only 20 minutes away.

The Canandaigua/Rochester KOA is an excellent campground to stay at for a week or so as you explore all the great attraction of New York’s Finger Lakes Region. We recommend it to all our friends!

We feel fortunate to have found McLear’s Cabin Colony and Campground.

Our scheduled site did not work out and they had several sites to chose from when we arrived. They were helpful and friendly on check-in and throughout our stay. Everyone was professional and courteous. The sites were flat and spacious with more than enough room for all our camping gear.

We had beautiful sunrises from our campsite and sunsets from the rented boat, as we finished our days fishing. This is a very well run operation on Black Lake in Hammond, NY

We love this campground! It’s so clean and the staff is very friendly. They have immaculate laundry rooms and plenty of campwide activities from golf cart parades to Hawaiian parties. Clean pools and nice camp store.

The park is extremely clean and the pond is great for fishing for bucket mouths. This will be our third season here and we will be here for a long long time to come. There are grocery stores and also a Wal-Mart and Home Depot very nearby as well as the Racino gambling casino in Saratoga about 40 minutes away. What more could you ask for?
