The driving road to get around the camping area at Cheyenne State Recreation Area is pretty “wash boardy.” There are only about six camp sites, but each one is near a small covered picnic pavilion, with a fire ring.

The sites are pretty spacious, considering they are along the driving road…. One of the spots is near the dumpster. Try not to get that spot. Dry camping only. There is one pit toilet and one “modern” toilet. The bathrooms were not the greatest, but for $7 (as of this writing), what can you expect?

This campground is good for overnighting. My Verizon Air Card worked great, provided you have an inverter, or generator or plenty of laptop battery power.

Rubidoux RV Park is a nice campground at the base of Scotts Bluff along the Oregon Trail. It is owned and operated by the city of Gering and the entire property is impeccably maintained.

Interior roads and individual sites are paved. Each site has a paved patio. Sites are very large with lots of mowed lawn area in between. They have electricity, cable TV, and water hook-ups. A multi-purpose building is located on the premises that houses shower and laundry facilities. The multi-purpose room which can be rented for a variety of activities and events. The room can be reserved by RV Park guests and the public at any time of the year. The room accommodates 40 to 60 people. The kitchen area includes a stove, oven, and refrigerator.

On the minus side, amenities are limited (no pool!). Nevertheless, one of the nicer campgrounds in the area.

We stayed at Camp A Way over a recent long weekend. It’s a nice little campground, conveniently located just off Interstate 80, exit 401. Even though we were near the highway there wasn’t much, if any noise.

The campground staff was super friendly and made us feel right at home. The property and facilities were clean and well maintained. The campground is big-rig friendly and the sites were very large with plenty of room between campers. We had a 38′ Class A with triple slideouts and still had plenty of room.

They have nice amenities too! Heated pool, indoor whirlpool, a laundry, gift shop, a convenience store and, two of my favorites… 72-channel cable TV and Wi-Fi access throughout the park!

This is one of the nicest campgrounds that we have stayed at in the midwest!

Chimney Rock Pioneer Crossing is a relatively new campground located on the road to Chimney Rock (Highway 92 & County Road 75) about three miles south of Bayard.

The park is in a rural setting with breathtaking views of Chimney rock, a famous landmark on the historic Oregon Trail.

Lunch and lite snacks are available here and the even have trout in the pond. They have pull through campsites, teepee rentals, and tent camping. The restrooms and facilities are clean and well maintained. The staff was very friendly to us when we visited.

Don’t forget to stop by the Settler’s Trading Post… they have very nice gifts including hand-made pottery wind chimes.
