Askew’s Landing – Edwards, MS

Askew’s Landing is a beautiful secluded campground located in the rolling hills of Mississippi. Is located east of Jackson, MS just off of Interstate 20 on Askew’s Ferry Road (turn left) about 4 miles from Edwards, Mississippi and is reasonably priced.

This campground is part of a Civil War plantation owned by the Askew Family. You can still see the old dirt road that was build by the plantation workers. It is part of a Civil War battlefield as well. It is well maintained, has large pull thru campsites, two bathhouses, a swimming pool, playground and activity barn. It has a fishing lake but photographers will find a wealth of nature photo-ops. The campground has lots of tall pines and other shade trees. The sites are very clean. Check-in and out was a breeze. We have stayed at this campground 3 times on our way to other destinations, but we definately would like to spend some time there as it is so beautiful and peaceful.

It can be a little difficult to find in the dark, and a single lane road runs around a small lake leading to the office. Each time we have stayed we have been greeted by fog so be careful on where you drive. We don’t think you will be dissappointed when staying at Askew’s Landing.

Ameristar RV Park – Vicksburg, MS

We stayed overnight at Ameristar RV Park on our way back to Texas. This campground is about a block from the Ameristar Hotel and across from the Ameristar Casino. We had reservations.

The sites are all paved with a small patio. They are quite close together but were adequate for our 39′ 5th wheel and dually to remain connected. The showers, bathroom and laundry are small but very clean and are housed in the reception/check-in building. The staff is efficient. We received 2 free breakfast buffet vouchers for the Casino buffet which was very good. A shuttle is provided between the RV Park, hotel and Casino.

The park was well kept and has easy access to I-20. We would stay there again.

Southern Comfort Camping Resort – Biloxi, MS

We recently stayed at Southern Comfort Camping Resort on our maiden voyage in our new RV. The staff was so helpful. They assisted us with hook-up, the items we were missing they had on hand. It was just wonderful.

The neighbors were friendly, and the campground is pet-friendly as well. We really felt at home. The bathrooms and shower stations were very, very clean. They have full hook-up, tent sites, LP gas and the price per night is not expensive. They also are Good Sams members so make sure you bring your card for the discount. I would suggest anytime you are in Biloxi to stay at Southern Comfort.

We were not towing yet so I needed a rental car. They actually had someone to come to you at the site to rent the car. You do not need to un-hook and leave. When finished, we just left the car in the designated location in the park, turned the keys into the office and left.

The folks at Southern Comfort made our madien voyage a very pleasant one I will never forget.

Howard Stafford Park – Pontotoc, MS

Howard Stafford Park was wonderful. I would recommend it to anyone. The price was reasonable, I have paid much more for sites without full hook-ups. The sites were big and clean. The playground had fun stuff for the kids, not just a small wooden set. There were plenty of places to ride bikes. There are stores close by. They lock the park down after 10:00 pm which made me feel safe.The caretakers went out of their way to make us feel at home. As for long term campers..don’t be so selfish.

Grand Casino RV Resort – Robinsonville, MS

We stayed 3 nights at Grand Casino RV Resort in November, 2006. The resort is very nice, with easy access and a friendly staff. The park is clean and well maintained.They have a free shuttle to the casinos that operates 24 hours a day and comes by your site every 30 minutes.

The resort facilities include a lodge, camp store, laundry, heated pool, volleyball courts, horseshoe pits, shuffleboard & basketball courts. All interior roads are paved and the sites are comfortably large with concrete pads for even the biggest RVs. Each site also had a large grass area with a picnic table.There’s nothing much to do but what’s going on in the casinos, but we had fun and would definitely stay here again.

Timberlake Campground – Brandon, MS

Timberlake is a beautiful campground with shaded, as well as sunny sites. The staff was friendly and helpful and the property was clean and well maintained. The waterfront sites here are the same price as the rest. You can see the Ross Barnett Reservoir from most areas in the campground and they have a nice boat ramp too. Other amenities include a pool and tennis courts.There are quite a few restaurants and shopping a short drive away… some within walking distance. The have Wi-Fi but it did not work for me.

Benchmark RV Park, Meridian, MS.

Benchmark RV Park was a jewel of a park, and big-rig friendly! The campground is neat, clean, and well maintained with long wide level sites (75′ sites each with a 10′x40′ level concrete pad). The owner was very friendly and helpful. This is one of the nicest parks we have been to this summer. They also have Wireless Internet, which is a must for fulltimers. More parks should be like this! We are fulltime RVers and have visited many parks out there and this was one of the best parks we have stayed in. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
