This is a great campground located on Fenwick Island (Selbyville) near Ocean City, Maryland. The park is big! … with over 1000 sites, many of which are located on the bay and waterfront, but only about 30 are available with full hookups.

There’s plenty of room for tenters, which is probably why the bathrooms are at capacity during the summer months. The campground has plenty to offer to keep kids busy, with a full schedule of events.

Amenities include a basketball court, lighted playground, a skateboard park, flea market and craft show (July), swimming pools, rec center and a very nice camp store.

The rates are a little high ($60-$80 for a full hookup with cable TV), but this is prime real estate and right on the Atlantic Ocean so the price is competitive with other campgrounds around.

We’ve stayed here several times over the past two years and plan on returning in the next few weeks. Can’t wait!

Oh My Gosh! I would not recommend Holly Lake Campground to anyone! Very large campground, the website says a 4000 square foot pool, NOT! There’s no parking at the pool. They put us in the sticks in the back part where the seasonal sites are and I felt like I was in a condemned trailer park! There was nothing in the back part for kids to do. They had an "archery range" which consisted of two bales of hay and a guy with his pick up truck for the supplies.

I will never ever go back to that place again!

Thank goodness for great friends! They have been asking us to camp with them for years. Since our children are now teenagers with two planning their college days, we felt it was time to deliver on our promise. Big Oaks Family Campground provided the perfect setting. The abundance of trees provided perfect shade, while the sparkling clean pool and well-maintained bathhouses with four newly installed and private showers added to our enjoyment. Not having camped since my husband and I were children, we opted to rent a cabin instead of using our tent. Again, we found our accommodations to be clean, neat and placed on a quiet cul-de-sac within 50 yards of the bathhouse. In addition, the campground’s proximity to both Rehoboth Beach and Boardwalk and Cape Henlopen’s Beach can’t be beat! Thanks to Big Oaks Family Campground for a memorable experience we will be talking about for years to come. — Barb from Downingtown, PA

We have just returned from our second stay at Big Oaks Family Campground. We visited the park last season in a small pop-up and returned this year in a 20′ Sunline trailer (and were able to enjoy the benefits of FULL HOOK UPS!).

Last season, we did stay a 4 day weekend in the pop-up at Cape Henlopen State Park (only water provided) and then took a ride over to Big Oaks. We selected a few spots and booked a 4 day weekend in August.
All I can say is, thank goodness for electric!! Even in the pop-up, our stay (near the alledged swamp that angry man posted a comment about) was a great memory! We too, were near the bath house with one shower (also made reference to by the angry man’s post).

For the first day, we thought that there was only one bathroom and one shower. We discovered that the large bathhouse near the cabins really had more facilities (located around the side!) The bathrooms were clean and maintained. We decided to return to Big Oaks again.

This year, as newbies with a bigger rig, were still haven’t mastered backing in and leveling off. The owner took pity on us and helped get our rig in the spot. What a nice thing! We experienced a cable problem, but after reporting it to the office, the local cable company was called out and fixed the problem within an hour! The campground is well run, family friendly, with a pleasant and nice staff. We can’t wait to return again in a few weeks for another long weekend!!

The new Indian River Inlet Bridge currently under construction will be incredible. It will likely bring in thousands of new tourists for the beach communities and unfortunately, for this, once little-known campground. Unfortunately, as of late Delaware Seashore State Park has become much more well known and has become WAY more crowded due to the loss of the extensive dry-camping areas that were very well used by people looking to fish 18 hours a day . The best sites (I hate to give away our secret but the wife and I haven’t been going as often due to the construction) are the farthest away ones, with 304 being the absolute best site on the campground (it has a pretty little shade tree, is oversized, and faces a corner so you can watch all the birds, including some variation of a sea eagle or something majestic). The sites that run along the far west side, facing the superxpensive condos a half mile west are all good, too. When it’s busy–and, wow, it’s busy there now all the time, but unbearable when the kids are out of school. The bathrooms are a humid, smelly nightmare, just because so many campers use them and there are only two bathhouses for a hundred and say afifty campstes, many of them non-self-contained units reliant on the bathhouses. (I’m almost certain of this–they have closed at least one in the dry camping area adjacent to the New Camp, as it’s called, and maybe closed two there.)

Anyway, the nearby beach is a half mile walk (hot in the summer), and if you’re up to it, walk across the bridge and hang out in the early morning with the surf fishers on the north side, where there’s about five miles of beautiful beach where you can walk a dog or two and really enjoy a pristine beachfront. Say hey to the employees and the resident managers. They are always very fine and helpful people.

He had been here for half of his stay, and had not complained to anyone in the office on any level. We have 4 different bathroom facilitied spaced throughout the grounds. We added the small bathroom facility next to the cabin area so that the persons using the cabins would have a bathroom close by if they were to need it during the night. We take our children camping a few times each year, and try to stay at different campgrounds each time. We always use camping cabins, and have never had bathroom facilities right next to us. We always have to walk a distance to the facilities. It is camping, and we expect it. Our cabins are all 2 rooms, clean and well kept. Mr. Cullen’s anger arose when he was asked to leave the pool area for 20 minutes for disregarding a very well posted rule. The pool attendent asked him to leave and he refused. The attendent had to go to the office and have one of the owners deal with the problem. While Mr. Cullen sat out the time asked, he sat at his lap top and wrote this letter, and informed us that he would send it out to every site he could find. There are some people who think that rules do not apply to them due to their status in life. Nobody here wants to insult a customer, nor do we want them to have a bad time. We go out of our way to accomodate, but know that you can’t please everyone. We are very highly rated, and have been owned and operated by different generations of the same family since 1968. We have many very loyal and lovely customers, and any of them would tell you that when they are here they feel like they are at home.

By nature I am a forgiving person. In addition, since I come from a family of small business owners, I am reluctant to leave negative feedback about a small, family-owned business. However, my family?s experience a Big Oaks Family Campground in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, was so unpleasant, that I feel a strong need to do what I can to save others from a similarly unpleasant experience.I will begin with the facilities. While I am sure that there are some very nice campsites and cabins at this park, ours was definitely not one of them. Our accommodations were rather expensive by campground standards ($80.00 per night for a small cabin). Behind the cabin was a large swamp. As you can imagine, this created a fertile breeding ground for mosquitoes, flies and other insects. Adjacent to our cabin was a small bathhouse with ONE toilet and ONE shower. THIS BATHHOUSE WAS SHARED BY 12 CABINS AND 4 TENT SITES. The only other bath/toilet facilities in the park were located approximately 300-400 YARDS AWAY from our cabin. Because campers were frustrated with the long lines of people waiting to use the toilet and the unsanitary conditions that result when 16 families share one toilet, they often resorted to relieving themselves in the swampy woods behind our cabin. This resulted in a persistent urine smell. Had we known in advance about these arrangements, we would never have come to this park. Unfortunately, we were not informed until after we paid, in cash (no credit cards are accepted), for 7 nights lodging. To top it all off, the park has a NO REFUND policy that prevented us from leaving to find better accommodations (we simply could not afford to walk away from $500).

Nonetheless, I am a hearty soul who expects to live in rustic conditions when I stay in campgrounds. In fact, if I had been treated with courtesy and respect, I would have accepted the conditions at Big Oaks and you would not be reading this negative review. Unfortunately, the ownership and staff of the park were neither courteous nor respectful. We found many of their comments and actions to be demeaning. When we complained about one particularly demeaning incident and the condition of the bathhouse, they informed us that we should be grateful that a bathhouse was provided at all and that they did need our business (they are proud to point out that there is considerable demand for their cabins and campsites). Our only recourse if we were not happy with the conditions in the park was to leave (without a dime of our money of course). I am 47 years old and have stayed in travel parks, campgrounds, and inexpensive hotels on family vacations since I was a child. In all of my years I never encountered such arrogant and inhospitable treatment of paying customers.

My strongest and most emphatic recommendation is that you plan to stay in one of the other find travel parks or campgrounds in the Rehoboth Beach area. However, if you must stay at Big Oaks, you should make sure that your site or cabin is satisfactory before you give them any of your money. In addition, you should not expect them to be grateful for your business.

Happy camping to all of you!

We were heading south from Upstate New York, and didn’t want to deal with the traffic of I-95. We chose a route through Delaware and Maryland to Norfolk, VA and on to points south. There is no express highway, but Delaware and Maryland offer many nice places to stop for a night or two. Killens Pond State Park is one of them. The campground area is clean and well maintained with campsites that aren’t on top of each other. The picnic and day use areas are sunny and spacious. For the young folks, there is a nice water park and plenty of playground stuff. Bring your fishing gear and enjoy a quiet afternoon at the pond.

The camp store is modest, but the firewood is generously portioned for the price and the staff is extremely friendly and helpful. Dover AFB, Chesapeake Bay, and the Ocean Beaches are all accessible from this inland campground. It’s a nice rest stop, or a great destination.
