The campground is situated in a heavily wooded area and all sites are shaded. There is privacy from adjacent sites. Fire rings are provided at each site. Restrooms are provided. There is a barrier free fishing pier and boat ramp, the reservoir is stocked with fish. The nearest telephone is 4 miles away. The nearest dump station is thirteen miles away. There is a two mile long trail around the reservoir. Popular activities include fishing, hiking, and boating. This is a beautiful campground with pull-through and back in sites and is handicapped accessable.

Camping Fees are $16.00 a night unless you have a Senior pass then it is $8.00 a night. This is a great place to boondock. Lots of wildlife around to watch and admire.

Check-in was easy and stress free. The staff was helpful even to the point of how to clean trout. There is a trout pond which is stocked and fun to fish. You pay for what you catch but you don’t have to have a fishing license. There is lots to do in the area being that it is Colorado Springs. It is a great family friendly campground.

The campground has about 100 sites… mostly grassy, but the pull-thrus are located in a section of the campground with large trees and do have substantial shade.

Amenities include free cable TV and wi-fi, a heated swimming pool, an arcade/game room, playground, laundry, restrooms and a small store with groceries and gifts. They also have a pancake breakfast daily! The facilities are clean and well maintained.

It’s a nice campground. While we were just passing thru the area and probably won’t be back this way for some time, I would recommend this campground to others considering a place to stay while in the area.

They have 141 full-service sites available year round. Sites are level, paved, and beautifully landscaped. Pull-through and back-in sites are both available. They also have a newly remodeled clubhouse features a fitness center, billiard room, fireplace, complimentary coffee bar, and book and game library. They also have a heated outdoor pool and hot tub.

With our AAA discount we paid $37.80 for a full hook-up, back-in site this summer. We recommend this campground and have already made plans to return this fall.

There is NO cell phone service available at all. The nearest cell signal can be achieved 5 miles away. The campground is clean, however it is not level or paved. The sites are long enough, but not very wide.

The staff was polite, but very aloof. We had reservations to stay for 5 days, however after a day and a half, we left and drove 11 hours back to Flagstaff. They did refund our remaining stay, and it was appreciated, but we were not impressed with this KOA at all.

We travel often, and usually find KOA very pleasing.  It was beautiful however, and if you like very remote, you will find it enjoyable.

The office staff however lacked in hospitality, and they were down right rude each time we had to go in.  This is a nice place to stay if you don’t mind a few bad attitudes.

Amenities include a large recreation room with a big screen TV, and cozy fireplaces, and two pavilions equipped with grills and lit at night. They also have an outdoor volleyball court, small children’s playground. Also, they have two bathhouses, a laundry room and totally free hi speed wireless internet throughout the entire campground.

There is quite a bit to keep you busy in the Colorado Springs area, and Mountaindale Campground makes a great midway point, or home base to see the area.

Of all the camping in the Colorado area, this park was far above the rest.

Each RV spot has a picnic table and fire ring. The spots in Row A are against the fence which backs up to a busy road. Those spots appeared quite narrow and small. I was in Row B (a “Deluxe” site, also “back in”), and I could still hear some road noise, but not bad. At the time I checked in, I was told that the “pull throughs” were not available. That would be Rows D, N, and M. Those sites are “Premium” and are extra long. At the time I was there, it appeared to me that their “Premium” sites were being converted to “back to back” sites because there was evidence of “recent ground disturbance” down the center of Rows D, N, and M, dividing the rows in half. In those rows, the electrical poles had two sides with two connections, same with the water spout. A contractor was there doing some “sewer work” on Row D. Who knows.

There are two laundry/rest room areas, but at the time I was there, only the one near the office was being used, and it required a code. The one on the other end was locked, did not appear to require a “code”, and appeared to not be in use at this time (off season). The washers in the office area have three different prices, depending on whether you want cold ($1.25), warm ($1.75), or hot ($2.25) water. However, the washers were those great front loaders! The dryers were those huge commercial type ones. The sign says you get 5 minutes for each quarter, but that wasn’t true. It was actually 5 minutes for the FIRST quarter. Subsequent quarters added 10 minutes. $1.25 gets you 45 minutes and I dried three washer loads on that. However, some of my clothing got a bit “fried” when I used the “hot” setting on the dryer.

The park has a pay phone if you need. I was told WiFi is free if you come in the office, if you want it at your site, it’s through Tengo and you pay. However, from my site in the upper part of Row B, I was able to detect an unsecured wireless on a sporadic basis. I’m not sure if this unsecured wireless belonged to the park. When I couldn’t get that signal, Verizon Aircard worked fine.

There is a public transit stop with frequent service right outside the gate for those that don’t tow a car. Also, the campground staff told me that Enterprise delivers rental cars there for those who need that option. During “off season,” I paid $28 (plus taxes, and they don’t honor any discounts) for the “Deluxe” site. I believe it’s almost double during “high” season. Good value for the money during “off season.” Don’t think I’d want to be here during “high season.”

The sites here are gravel and most of the sites have one tree. There are picnic table at each site. A casino right across the way if you enjoy that. There is also a shuttle that leaves hourly for Cortez if you need to go there.

The women’s rest room had three showers, and you had to check out a key. Shower #2 had a very dirty floor (which I reported to the check in person), the other two were clean. The pool is less than four feet, but enough that you could do some swimming. The only downer was that the night I stayed there had a 50 mph wind, but what can you say?

The campground has RV and tent campsites, plus 19 rental cabins. WI-FI wireless internet access is available for a fee and cable TV hookups at all campsites (cost is included in the nightly rate), a convenience store, snack bar, souvenir store, and an ice cream parlor.

The location makes this campground a good base camp for exploring the area. Nearby is an alpine slide, ancient Puebloan ruins at Mesa Verde National Park, and the historic Durango and Silverton Narrow Gauge Train.

Unfortuantely, in our opinion the staff was not very nice. They were so not nice, in fact we will not go back. Camping should be about good times, not focused on not nice campground staff.
