Campground Reviews for May, 2006
Brooks Memorial State Park - Goldendale, WA
If you want a good place to catch up on some reading, Brooks Memorial State Park is it! You have NO television reception at all unless you have a satellite. (I thought it was interesting that the small, privately owned RV park next door charged $1 less for full hookups WITH CABLE TV!) I came here hoping to escape a record breaking 95 degree heat wave in the month of MAY!!!! The camp host told me that although Goldendale was suffering the same 95 degree heat that my home was, this park was high enough in the mountains that there would be an extreme temperature drop in the evenings. The host said, "you’ll need blankets." I opened all windows, and woke up at 3:00 AM to a refreshing 50 degrees.
Circus Circus KOA - Las Vegas, NV
The KOA is a big parking lot right behind Circus Circus, which is at the top of the Strip. A bit pricey: $40 for a regular site. The expensive sites are justified as having Walmart outdoor table/chair sets on end sites with a little grass. Neither of us thought they were worth the extra money. […]
Guadalupe River State Park - Spring Branch, TX
Guadalupe River is a beautiful state park! It’s neat and clean. Nice people run the park and they were very helpful. The only drawback to this campground was that the camp sites didn’t have sewer connection, although a black water dump was available. The fees for camping here were reasonable and we will stay here again…
Bernice State Park - Grove, OK
Bernice State Park is one of the nicest campgrounds I have stayed in. The only draw back is that the camp sites don’t have sewer connections… although they do have a blackwater dump station. The park was clean and the hosts were very helpful and nice. Bernice State Park is located on the northwestern corner of beautiful Grand Lake, in northeastern Oklahoma. We will stay here again.
Palmyra RV and Golf Resort - Palmyra, ME
Palmyra RV and Golf Resort is a quiet comfortable campground located in central Maine. As the name implies, the campground caters to golfers with an 18-hole course on the grounds. Although I’m not a golfer, we found the campground to be very quiet and pleasant, with a small pool and walking trails. Our site was open, but backed up to a tree line, while many other sites are shaded and quite roomy.
Kingman KOA - Kingman, AZ
We’re hooked up here at Kingman KOA right now as this is written. This campground has good cell phone service, great cable line-up, and beautiful flowering oleander beside our site (and between all the other sites).
Met some nice regulars. There are several trailers here, maybe from a decade or so ago when Kingman was on […]
Tucumcari KOA - Tucumcari, NM
What a view of a nearby mountain! Tucumcari KOA is right off of I-40, and a very convenient place with nice amenities at a good price. Small rabbits are everywhere in the campground, making our dogs antsy and excited. Two criticisms… the bathroom was steamy and hot in the morning. No air conditioning makes this so uncomfortable that I needed a shower after washing my hands, which brings me to number two. The black water dump connection at our site (9 or 10) was filled to about eight inches below the rim when we got there so we said something about it.
Holbrook KOA - Holbrook, AZ
What a nice couple that owns this place! And a nice place. Holbrook KOA is clean, friendly, and right off of I-40, and with wifi, decent cable, and some shaded sites.
The campground is an hour and a half west to the Grand Canyon (and don’t miss Meteor Crater on the way), and it’s less than […]
USI RV Park - Wichita, KS
We have stayed at USI RV Park numerious times over the years and have found it to be the cleanest and best maintain park we have ever been in. The campground staff is very friendly and go out of their way to help with requests and to see that you are a “happy camper”. We […]
Fort McAllister State Park - Richmond Hill, GA
Fort McAllister State Historic Park Campground is off the same exit as the KOA (which the in-laws tell us is very nice), about ten minutes’ drive east, two turns. Follow the signs. Not difficult to get to and worth the extra miles.
The big drawback: no reservations, first-come/first-served, which means that a phone call just as […]
